Forget the El Classico, the real derby this week is the North London one
I hate Spurs as much as the next Arsenal fan and have enjoyed the fact that they have been humbled since they thought they were finally going to leap frog us this season, but there’s a part of me that wishes they were doing better so that I could actually believe they would have a chance of beating us, plus it would make the game feel a little more bigger than just another game.
With a defence as fragile as the one Spurs poses and our ever present attacking style, we have the potential to build a cricket score in this game. One thing about Spurs is that they will attack with pace, but with our defence being so quick I have no worries there. Added with our ability to turn defence into attack with a few quick passing interchanges we should be able to punish the ample amount of gaps they usually leave at the back.
The game should see the return to the 4-4-2 formation as well, which means that van Persie will finally start a league game since his long injury lay off and it could potentially mean we will see a better Adebayor as a result. He looked a lot better on Sunday when van Persie came on and he has a good goal scoring record against Spurs. Also, neither Hleb nor Cesc seemed as though they were in top gear for Sunday’s game so I am expecting an improvement seeing as we’re against a weaker team.
Anything other than a victory is unacceptable. When we beat Spurs these days I’m not even happy, just relieved that we haven’t lost saving me from any embarrassment. They’ve come into some little form lately and their win tonight at City will give them some confidence, but not enough to beat us.
Expected Line Up:
Almunia; Sagna, Touré, Gallas, Clichy; Hleb, Fàbregas, Flamini, Rosický; Adebayor, van Persie.
The game is on Sky Sports Live for UK fans.
