I’ve noticed that a lot of people lately have been saying the race for the crown is just between United and us, but if you look at the table you can see it is extremely tight and Chelsea and Liverpool are still there. Chelsea losing Mourinho seems to have people writing them off but they have slowly clawed their way back into the race. They will have key players in Carvalho, Essien, possibly Malouda and most importantly Drogba missing, but they still have players like Lampard that can hurt us if we aren’t careful. The best thing about Drogba missing is that Shevchenko will most likely start and judging from his performances in a Blues shirt I can’t see him posing either Touré or Gallas any problems so that possibly eliminates one goal threat.

Of course I’m looking forward to this because it’s a big game, but most importantly barring a’ fluke’ injury, it will be the return of Ashley Cole to Arsenal. The reaction the fans give him will be interesting. I hope that the hype won’t have died down just because he didn’t come last year. I want to see him get abused from the second he touches the Emirates to the second he leaves.

With United playing at Anfield on Sunday this game is doubly important. We need to win this game because we have matches like Portsmouth and Everton coming up after this game that will also be very hard. By 7PM on Sunday we could potentially be four points clear, or we could be two points behind.

Assuming Hleb, Flamini and Cesc are returning, I think that Wenger will go with:

Almunia; Sagna, Touré, Gallas, Clichy; Hleb, Fàbregas, Flamini, Rosický; Adebayor, van Persie

It wouldn’t surprise me though if Wenger decides to go with 4-5-1 with Adebayor by himself and bring van Persie on later on in the game because he has played that way against United and Liverpool. Van Persie has to start. Its just not his goal scoring threat, but he can make things happen.

Van Persie will definitely start upfront with Adebayor if he is fit. No tactical reason will put RVP on the bench, none. The only way we go 4-5-1 is if Wenger doesn't feel RVP is ready to start a match like this. He looked fine tonight though, so he should start.

Hleb, Flamini and Fabregas starting will make us the overwhelming favourites and in that case I expect nothing less than the three points.

I'm not quite clear on the Hleb, Fabregas and Flamini situation but if they do all play and we have our strongest 11 out there in a 4-4-2 then I will expect us to take all three points, especially since Chelsea will be without Drogba and Essien, the two biggest pains in the arse for us whenever we play them.

My wish is for Bendtner and Van Persie to start together but Adebayor and RVP will be great as well as Ade is productive alongside Robin.

Hopefully Cesc returns but if not then Diaby HAS to play. He is a major creative force and we need as many of those players to unlock Chelsea's stubborn defense.

its great we have RVP back for this game. diaby and rvp showed what we really missed in the last couple games. CREATIVITY. when they went off the field, we were on the backfoot and hardly went forward.

hopefully hleb or cesc is back for this game but i doubt it. flamini would be good though! :D

wenger probably rested adebayor for the chelsea game, i can almost guarentee that wenger will start the ade-machine. that can be good or bad because adebyor doesnt offer much running, in return he offers aerial threat where chelsea defend well against imo.

Sky commentators were pretty sure that Hleb, Cesc and Flamini would all be available, that would be great if we have our first XI on the pitch. :D

we would eat them alive if we have the trio back. chelsea won't play the pressing game like Boro/Newcastle. They are gonna match us aesthetically :howler:

Sky commentators are idiots though, so I wouldn't read into what they say.

No Drogba and Essein is a massive massive boost.

The players have to play this match like it's the most important match in their life.
Thanks for stating the obvious, really wouldn't have figured that.

I think as we have seen during Fabregas's absence how crucial to the team he is, so i think this game will be heavily influenced by wether he is back or not

Wizout Essien , Drogba and possibly carvalho ...any result other than a win for u guys is a failure

if the above 3 were available i would have expected a win for chelsea who will win the league this season imo

Of course it's not a failure if we fail to beat them. We can take them out but saying it's a failure is stupid. They have a much stronger squad than us and can call on better replacements than us if they are short. The players they have missing though certainly gives us a greater chance.

£300m NET spending over 5 years should make Chelski favourites over out team which cost only £35M...

Yes but you have Wenger while we have Grant; Drogba and Essien are missing while all your injured players are comming back for this match. Anyhow what is your team out of?
