At 37' 1-0 to Legia. A pinball goal after a freekick, a very silly goal to give away. Not much seems to have changed in that aspect for us.

We actually started quite well and for about 20-25' had complete control of the game showing a composure that has been so absent in the last few games. After that some silly balls given away by the usual suspects and a few unnecessary fouls in dangerous areas ended up giving Legia a chance to get ahead on the score which they somehow luckily took advantage of.

Even during our best period in this first half we never really seemed to threaten Legia's goal, apart from a few Carrillo rides and a nice combination between RvW and Matías.

The problems are still there and looking at that bench tonight it's really difficult to see from where can Sá Pinto come up with any attacking threat.

At 48' Polga offers a golden chance to Ljuboja to make the second by Rui Patrício saved us.

 

Matias hits the target from a far away freekick but the keeper saved easily.

A perfect curled in freekick from the left by Matías and carrico nods it in the first post. Crucial away goal.

 

Polga with another slapstick moment this time inside the opposing box slicing a volley completely free from opposition on the penalty spot. He is inspired tonight.

Legia 2-2 SPORTING - FT

If there was a game where the score was better than the way we've played that was definitely it.

We've started the second half in a similar tone to the last 15' of the first, ie. playing some ridiculous contention game in our own half inviting Legia to come on top of us. Things changed a lot with our 1st goal which was as deserved as the one that Legia got in the first half, with the difference that ours much better than theirs. For the first time in the game we clearly dominated and could have made a second but Legia levelled things again and ended up grabbing a second goal out of nowhere with a little (big) help by the linesman. Finally the best goal of the match and one that can be completely decisive on the overall tie - a superb trivela shot by André Santos that ended up getting in the top left corner of Legia's goal.

Individually Matías was again for me our best player tonight and I also liked Rinaudo and Rui Patrício.

Polga was too bad to be true.

Sá Pinto made some bold (and odd) substitutions but for his credit both goals came from players subbed in and the team did come better in the second half. Nevertheless, our problems are still there and he will need more than his grit and will power to change that.

 

Sa Pinto did a great job his subs raised the level of the game and even scored

hopefully its a sign of things to come, Domingos was bothering me with his substitutions that never seemed to make a difference

could have just been luck but well have to see how this progresses

it was a decent game by Sporting, but from the conditions of the match and the recent events at the club and low morale I think it was a good result .we are clear faviourtes to win in Lisboa and progress to the next round

Manchester City will be tough,. I hope FC Porto can somehow beat them. Man City is a very good team, and they are a strong and physical team and have amazing strikers that will give us a hard time. I actually am fearful something similar to the bayern munich CL match of 09 can occur, and if something like that happened Im afraid Sa Pinto will kill someone.
