Anyhoo, Buffon has gotten jet an award, the FifPro award as the best goalie. One more to add to the Champions League MVP 2003, #2 Golden Ball 2006 etc etc.

Yeah, I remember that. The biggest criteria for Flo was that Friedel had gotten an award for the best goalie in EPL some year, and when someone(actually I think it was me ) mentioned the Champions League MVP that Buffon has got Flo went MIA from the thread.

 

Actually i think that Buffon is the best goalkeeper EVER. Rules in the last 15 or so years have changed much to the detriment of GKs- they cant catch the ball if its passed back by their teammates and so on. Also with the dying out of the classical libero playing behind other defenders goalkeepers have started taking a bigger part in the organizing of the defense.

 

Currently Buffon is the best but I think in 3 or 4 years Casillias and Cech would surpass his current level.

Those two's potential is humoungous

How do you define the best goalkeeper in the world? Have you seen Julio Cesar's games recently? Since the start of the season he has made better saves than Buffon has ever made in the same run of games.

Julio Cesar is still missing something, perhaps, but at this point in time, Buffon is not a necessity.

Buffon is the best GK in the world right now, no doubt. Though, I can see Casillas growing to a better GK.

It's not the number of saves, it's more the number of mistakes that defines the good keper imo, as his mistakes always gonna be crucial. And goals like the one that Mascara scored or Kaka in the derby are not what i call good goalkeeping.

I completely agree, this guy pulls off so many amazing saves and has Bramble, Carr, Boumsong in defence.

Buffon is untouchable, he's been the best really since 2002 in our CL run, and he got the MVP(1st ever to be awarded to a GK) and the best gk in CL 2002-2003.

add to that he's a WC champ and 2nd in the Ballon d'or ranks.
