The draw for the 1st and 2nd qualifying rounds of the CL/EL will take place this Monday, June 19, and three of the four teams will learn their opponents (Dinamo start their Euro campaign in the 3rd round). Croatia start the season in 16th place in the UEFA coefficient table, full three points behind Austria and Greece while Denmark is only a fraction behind Croatia. However, this will be the final European season with the ‘Platini reforms’. Starting in 2018 leagues like Croatia will have it much harder to qualify for both the CL and EL but the target is still 15th place for 2 clubs in the CL and an extra team in the EL

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Rijeka
Rijeka for only the 2nd time in their history will compete in the Champions League qualifying rounds (in the late 90s they lost to Partizan). Rijeka will enter the 2nd round qualifying and will be seeded for only that round. Should they progress to the third round and playoffs they will be unseeded in both. There isn’t really a dangerous team that Rijeka can face right away, however the best teams to avoid are probably Zilina, Honved and Dundalk.

EUROPA LEAGUE: Dinamo Zagreb, Hajduk Split, Osijek
Dinamo will start in the 3rd round so they will not know their opponents until mid-July. Dinamo are guaranteed to be seeded in the 3rd round and the playoff round should they make it that far.

Hajduk will once again start in the second round where they will be seeded as well as in the third round if they progress. Once again if they make the playoffs they will be unseeded. Some dangerous teams to avoid in the 2nd round include Kazakh side Kairat, Polish side Jagiellonia, Hungarian side Ferencvaros and Scottish side Glasgow Rangers.

Osijek will be the earliest starters as they begin their Euro campaign already in late June in the first round qualifying. Osijek are only seeded in the first round so their path to make even the playoffs will be extremely difficult. Other than a Kazakh side (Irtysh), there shouldn’t be any team that will cause Osijek problems in the first round. However in the 2nd round they already can potentially face the likes of Galatasaray, Maccabi Tel-Aviv

Rijeka draw the winners of The New Saints from Wales or Europa FC from Gibraltar (first round tie) with the first leg being in Rijeka, easy tie

Osijek's potential 1st round opponents: Zeta Golubovci (MNE), Tre Penne (SME), UE Santa Coloma (AND), Floriana (MLT), St. Joseph's (GIB)...all beatable but pretty clear the Montenegrins will be the toughest

Hajduk won't know their potential opponents until the first round is completed

Rijeka with a complete gift of a draw.

Looking at some of our neighbors and their draws, you have a couple of former Jugo matchups:

Zrinjski v. Maribor
Partizan v. Buducnost

If Rijeka progress, how does that work with the league route vs champions route? Would Rijeka only play a seeded team from the Champions route?

They can only play teams from the Champions route, as they are domestic champions. However, they are unseeded in the next round and playoff round should they make it that far. The best draw for an unseeded team in the next round is probably somebody like BATE or Maribor

Hajduk once again got a tricky tie in the 2nd round, they will play the winners of Levski Sofia/Sutjeska Niksic, first leg at home second leg away. However in the past few years Levski haven't done that well in Europe, losing to the likes of Maribor and FK Sarajevo, but ideally you would have liked a 'smaller' team. Maybe too many (myself included) aren't giving Sutjeska much of a chance, but they are very much in the tie as well, which would be a 'spectacle'...Hajduk in Montenegro :lala:

Osijek will play FC Luzern of Switzerland in the 2nd round, hard draw

Maribor is a steep task for a small club like ours, but if we can play like we did against Wisla, especially away, we can surprise them!

Either way, great draws for our clubs

Two home wins today and more importantly two clean sheets. Hajduk beat Levski 1:0 in a scrappy game full of fouls and little football. The tie is still in the air but the away leg will be behind closed stands and I would say after today Hajduk are better than Levski

Osijek with an impressive 2:0 victory over Swiss side Luzern, didn’t watch the match but according to reports fully deserved win. Osijek in good shape to progress to the next round now

RIJEKA
TNS: 1.0

DINAMO ZAGREB
-

HAJDUK SPLIT
Levski Sofia: 1.0

OSIJEK
Santa Coloma: 2.0
Luzern: 1.0

5.0/4 = 1.250

12. Czech Republic 24.875
13. Switzerland 24.500
14. Austria 23.850
15. Greece 23.700
------------------------------------------
16. Denmark 22.700
17. CROATIA 22.125

Despite the change in CL/EL format starting next season, 15th place still brings 2 CL clubs + an extra club in the EL. However the cutoff for an automatic Champions League spot for the Champions is now 10th place (in the ‘Platini format’ it was 13th). A new league to keep an eye on is Denmark, who are surging up the rankings (they were 24th only two years ago). Austria could be in danger of losing two clubs already, both their teams failed to win at home and conceded away goals.

The draw for the CL/EL Third Qualifying round is tomorrow; Rijeka in the Champions League are unseeded. Dinamo will find out their first opponents and they are seeded as well as Hajduk should they progress. Even if Osijek eliminate Luzern, Osijek will still be unseeded in the next round.

Rijeka draw Red Bull Salzburg in the next round of the CL, first leg in Austria. Tough draw but not unbeatable, however there were easier draws possible (APOEL was probably the best option in Rijeka's group). They did avoid Olympiakos however

The EL groupings were released and here are potential opponents for Dinamo, Hajduk, Osijek (the latter two if they progress of course)

DINAMO: Olimpik Donetsk (UKR), Progress Niederkorn/AEL Limassol (0-1), Kairat Almaty/Skenderbeu (1-1), Dinamo Bucharest (ROU), Vaduz-Odd (0-1), Arka Gdynia (POL)

*Not the easiest pairings, the Norwegian side is probably the best bet while Arka won the Polish Cup but were relegation candidates in the league. Kairat would be a terrible draw for many reasons but they have a tough result from the 1st leg against Dinamo's old opponents Skenderbeu

HAJDUK: CSU Craiova (ROU), Nomme Kalju-Videoton (0-3), Inter Baku/Fola Esch (1-0), Valletta/Utrecht (0-0), Paninios/Gorica (2-0), Brondby/VPS (2-0)

* Brondby is probably the team to avoid, the rest aren't scary but no pushovers either

OSIJEK: PSV Eindhoven (NED), Fenerbahce (TUR), Krasnodar (RUS), Shkendija/HJK Helsinki (3-1), Panathinaikos (GRE)

*The bingo would be Shkendija/HJK, both beatable and the Macedonians have the edge, Panathinaikos also wouldn't be the worst. However I think they have no shot at the first three

In our wet dreams szovkap!:grin2:

Even if we get by Levski we're done next round. Broendby look a solid team from the highlights I saw against that Finnish club...Will watch match against Midtjylland today to see if they're the real deal...Osijek surely done next round, and Rijeka 50/50 against Red Bull...Dinamo are through imho.
