CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Dinamo Zagreb
EUROPA LEAGUE: Hajduk Split, RNK Split, NK Varazdin

Hard to believe but the first European draws of the season will take place on Monday June 20. Three of the four clubs (Dinamo, RNK Split, Varazdin) will know their opponents next week. Hajduk won't know their first opponents until July 15.

Croatia are coming off a decent season in Europe where the four clubs earned a coefficiant of 4.125. The 0.333 season has been erased and after this season the 1.000 season will be erased, meaning Croatia has a chance to actually crack the top 20. Making the top 20 doesn't change much in reality, but it will look better :D If there is one positive, Croatia are actually improving season by season, despite it not seeming like that. Last season they started at 27th I believe and now they are 22nd.

Unlike last season as well, the non-Dinamo/Hajduk teams aren't getting weaker. You might remember Cibalia and Sibenik basically selling half their squad. Well, RNK Split have kept their squad together and have made 2-3 signings so far. Varazdin surprisingly have kept their young players so far, but lets see if that stays. Also good is that most teams are already starting preparations, unlike the previous years where they start late June and have one week of training before European matches

Champions League: Dinamo Zagreb
Dinamo start the season with a coefficiant of 20.224 and they begin in the second round qualifying (July 12/13 & July 19/20) where they will be seeded. These matches will both be before the HNL season starts. Dinamo will be seeded in every qualifying round of the CL, a real chance for them, but it doesn't help the past two seasons they haven't even made the playoff rounds.

Dinamo's potential second round qualifying opponents:
- Dacia (Moldova)
- Pyunik (Armenia)
- Borac Banja Luka (BiH)
- Mogren Budva (CG)
- Skonto Riga (Latvia)
- Fehervar (Hungary)
- Bangor City (Wales)
- HB Torshavn (Faroe Islands)
- Linfield (Northern Ireland)
- Tobol Kustani (Kazakhstan)
- F91 Dudelange (Luxembourg)
- Flora Tallinn (Estonia)
- Breidablik (Iceland)
- Valletta (Malta)
- Neftchi Baku (Azerbaijan)
- Skhendija Tetovo (Macedonia)
- Skenderbeu (Albania)

In the third round things could get slightly tougher as Litex Lovech, Racing Genk, Maribor, Slovan Bratislava become unseeded. In the fourth round unseeded teams would potentially include Rosenborg, Partizan, Sturm Graz, APOEL and Wisla

Europa League: Hajduk Split, RNK Split, NK Varazdin
RNK Split and Varazdin will know their opponents on Monday June 20. Hajduk will wait until July 15. Varazdin enter the first round with a coefficiant of 3.224 which is good enough for a seed. Their matches will be played on June 30 and July 7. Both Varazdin and Split barely made the cut to be seeded in the second round.
Hajduk will be unseeded in the third round and their first matches will be played on July 28 and August 4

I am a little more optimistic about this season than last season. RNK Split and Varazdin so far have kept their players and RNK Split seems to be an ambitious side. I don't expect deep runs, but they should both make the third round. I'm afraid there won't be the same magic for Hajduk this season, just important to at least get a win so next season they will be seeded when they start.

With Dinamo, you never know, I guess you can say they got unlucky the past two seasons with the draws but this season they really don't have many excuses, they know they are seeded for every qualifying round. Though based on the past, it would be typical for them to get Racing Genk in the third round :pp

Good points about RNK Split keeping their players plus adding extra ones. That's how it should be for every team knowing that your playing in Europe. I think RNK Split could make it to the playoff round, considering they were playing 2nd division last year, that would be historical for them. Other shitty croatian teams look at RNK Split as a guide.

Dinamo have a better chance to finally get back to the CL, but it will still take some luck with the draw, especially in the Fourth round, Varazdin will go one round max, and RNK as well depending on how lucky they get with the draw. As far as my Hajduk, it'll take a miracle for us to get out of the 3rd round, and if we do, I'll be satisfied with that considering the team we have right now...

Dinamo Zagreb can draw one of the following:

- Dacia Chisinau (Moldova)
- Pyunik Yerevan (Armenia)
- Videoton (Hungary)
- Neftchi Baku (Azerbaijan)
- Skendija (Macedonia)
- One of Valletta (MLT)/Tre Fiore (SNM)

Skendija and the last one would be the best draw. The top four Dinamo would still be favorites but tricky opponents. Not sure what to think about the Hungarians.

Varazdin's potential Europa League opening opponents:

- Olimpija Ljubljana (Slovenia)
- Vllaznia (Albania)
- FK Zeta (Montenegro)
- Banants Yerevan (Armenia)
- Lusitans (Andorra)

Varazdin is the one team I don't expect too much from, the jackpot would be the Andorrans. Only tricky ones would be Olimpija and maybe Zeta.

Split will also know their opponents today but their groupings have not been made yet

it should be, only way I could see problems is if Dinamo don't finish them off already in Maksimir. Neftchi was one of the draws I think Dinamo would have wanted to avoid though, far away, team with some foreigners and they already had trouble with teams from Azerbaijan a few years ago (when Koch was in goal, and that was a strong Dinamo team)

Europa League 1st Round Qualifying

NK VARAZDIN vs. FC Lusitans (Andorra)

Varazdin got the jackpot, will the screw it up? :D

edit: looking at wikipedia, they seem to be some club owned by a Portuguese guy and their club is all Portuguese players. Their freakin logo is the Portuguese FA one too :D They have only played in Europe once, getting crushed by Rabotnicki 11:0 on aggregate last season, so Varazdin really shouldn't be too concerned

RNK Split and Varazdin will know their opponents in about 30 minutes. Both sides are seeded, Varazdin will of course have to pass Lusitans before thinking of the second round

Europa League 2nd Round Qualifying

Iskra-Stal (Moldova) vs. NK VARAZDIN/FC Lusitans
NK Domzale (Slovenia) vs. RNK SPLIT

Split get a regional team, should be interesting matchup. Domzale don't seem to be the same team from 2-3 years ago

Varazdin get some Moldovan club without much history in Europe (never won a round)

Well, Domžale are not Maribor or Olimpija in terms of glory, but they pretty well organized team, which gave Maribor a run for their money in the league this season, while they actually took the Cup home, despite playing last 15 minutes or so with 10 men in the final against Maribor. So, knowing that Split is not Dinamo or Hajduk either, this should be a pretty close matchup.

so at the end of the day none of our clubs can complain too much about the draws. I'd say Varazdin of all teams had the better, Dinamo and Split both get tricky opponents.

Varazdin play Andorrans in the first round and if they get through them they play a team from Moldova with no tradition in Europe. Of course, that doesn't mean anything but Varazdin should still be pleased. Only concern is they are already worried about paying for travel, but that should be extra motivation, win these two rounds and get a big club in the third.

Split could have done better, while Croatian sides do well against SNL opposition its always tricky playing neighbors. This is essentially a HNL-type matchup in Europe. If Split can replicate their HNL form then they should pass through

Dinamo can have some worries but in reality they are the favorites. They don't have a good history with clubs from that region. Maybe its better they play at Maksimir first so they don't panic is a first leg away match in a potential hostile atmosphere.

Decent draws for all 3 of our sides, Split probably got the worst draw with Domzale, but even they are probably favourites for that one on paper.

It would be great for coefficients if we had Hajduk, Split and Varteks all in the 3rd qualifying round, anything from there depends on the luck of the draw and would be a bonus for me. :hopeful:

Also as HS said, our coefficients for the last 5 seasons are:

2006/07: 1.000
2007/08: 3.666
2008/09: 4.333
2009/10: 3.000
2010/11: 4.125
Total: 16.124

The 1.00 will now drop out and be replaced by whatever we get this year, so its a real chance to move up from our current position of 22nd in europe.

And its still a long way off I know, but top 15 would mean the HNL gets 2 CL places. Its currently occupied by Scotland, who have a total of 21.141. And 06/07 was Scotland's second best season in the last 5 years (they got almost 7 points), so they have a lot to make up this year to avoid droping down.

Im always optimistic in June though. Of course, by August our sides could all be out. :D

Mamic has said he will resign if Dinamo don't pass Neftchi...its the typical "panic" mode from the fans :D

No way Croatia will be in top 15, at best top 20 but even thats a stretch. The 1.000 should be surpassed within the first weeks of the European season, two wins from Varazdin against the Andorrans and they are halfway there :pp

Before we get too crazy, we've seen HNL sides lose to Cliftonville, Differdange, draw clubs like Valletta...but I still feel somewhat good about these draws :D

I just F@#$%^ love how Jurcic is like OH No! we got this random team no one has heard of and we might lose because there so far away!!(Twinkle in eyes) Like, shut up and say were gonna win 4-0 and have something positive to say, cant stand these pussy coaches... People enough with making drama for no reason we can't lose to a team like that......

Varteks should advance easily, while Split will have a tougher task ahead of them. I think Split will advance as well, but by the skin of their teeth...As far as dinamo is concerned, and dinamo fans don't get riled up, but I could definitely see an upset in this one especially if they take their opponent lightly like some of our members seem to be doing here in this thread. Neftchi are far from pushovers, and dinamo better take a comfortable lead with them to Baku (2-0 and above) if they want to move on...

We will all go thru, and then Dinamo will kick the crap out of Barca once in the CL, but only after Hajduk trashes Barca in Poljud in a couple of weeks :proud:
