After a relatively successful season in terms of coefficient points won the new European season is shortly upon us as the Croatian league continues their quest to get 15th place and a second club in the CL qualifying. Croatia is about three points behind Romania but they have a lot of points to defend while Romania doesn't have much. Croatia start the season 17th

15. Romania 26.299
16. Austria 25.675
17. CROATIA 23.500
18. Cyprus 22.300
19. Poland 21.500

All four of the Croatian clubs will know their opponents on the draw which is this Monday (June 22). Due to UEFA changing the format of the Europa League, this time two Croatian sides start in the first round rather than only one. Also, there is still no confirmation from UEFA if they will regionalize the early rounds, they will publish the groupings either tomorrow or early Monday morning

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Dinamo Zagreb
Dinamo will enter in the 2nd round and will be seeded for both the second and third rounds. The only danger team in the 2nd round is probably FK Sarajevo but the champions of Slovakia and Kazakhstan are also unseeded. If they progress, Dinamo will be seeded in the third round but the opponents can get potentially tougher: Malmo, Lech Poznan, Maccabi Tel-Aviv, Qarabag to name a few but Dinamo would be favorites against each of these. Dinamo was very fortunate that a team like FC Copenhagen and Legia didn't win their league titles or else they would be unseeded already here

In the playoff round, Dinamo will not be seeded unless four teams with a higher coefficient than them lose in the earlier rounds. If all goes to plan their potential opponents are:

- FC Basel (SUI)
- Red Bull Salzburg (AUT)
- Viktoria Plzen (CZE)
- Steaua Bucharest (ROU)
- Celtic (SCO)

EUROPA LEAGUE: Rijeka, Hajduk Split, Lokomotiva Zagreb
Lokomotiva Zagreb begin their second ever European campaign already in the first round and they will hope do to better than a few years ago when they lost to Belarusian opposition. Loko will be seeded in the first round but they can still face tough teams like Ferencvaros, Cukaricki, Odd and the always tricky Kazakh sides. If Lokomotiva progress they will be unseeded the rest of the way

Hajduk too will start in the 1st round where they will be seeded. They also will be seeded in the second and third rounds if they progress that far. Avoid the teams mentioned above and Hajduk should progress in the 2nd round. With Hajduk its hard to know how they will do, if they play like they have last few months it won't be a long Euro season

Rijeka enter in the second round and will be seeded. Rijeka will also be seeded in the third round while at the moment they would be unseeded in the playoffs but with chances of becoming seeded, they would need five clubs with a higher coefficient to fall in the earlier rounds

That would be great if we could continue to rise in the coefficient rankings and possible get another team in the CL qualifiers. Hopefully Lokomotiva can get some decent results. Not sure what their team looks like.

Big day for our clubs is tomorrow, the beginning of the season euphoria is starting to hit home!:excited: As far as Hajduk is concerned, anybody but Ferencvaros and Cukaricki I'll take....even Celje. In the end it's best that we go to Gibraltar, San Marino, or Andorra. Those would basically be traing matches for any of our clubs...

UEFA have revealed the groupings for the EL, the draw is not regionalized as rumored. Hajduk got a fairly good list of potential opponents minus a Kazakh side while Loko got a decent one as well

Ordabasy (KAZ)
Sillamae Kalev (EST)
Atlantas (LTU)
Balzan (MLT)

Lokomotiva
Celje (SVN)

College Europa (GIB)
La Fiorita (SME)
Airbus UK Broughton (WAL)

2nd Round
RIJEKA vs. Shkendija (MKD)/Aberdeen (SCO)
Vikingur (ISL)/Koper (SVN) vs. HAJDUK*
LOKOMOTIVA* vs. PAOK (GRE)

*Hajduk and Lokomotiva must win their first round ties

Hajduk got the best draw of the three, Rijeka got a tough unseeded team in Aberdeen, runners-up in the SPL. Scottish clubs have done poorly of late but definitely one of the stronger teams they could have drawn. Rijeka still favorites though

Tudor faces Lokomotiva :howler: Lokomotiva will probably be eliminated by them, bad draw for the 2nd round

Excellent draws for all of our teams. 2nd round will be tricky for Rijeka, and Lokomotiva will be whooped by PAOK no doubt....Hajduk have no excuses as HS mentioned, even with the limited squad we have. The only thing I worry is that if we do happen to face Koper it will be a mess with Torcida up there. This could get really ugly hooligan wise....:scared:

Yeah I made the mistake of going to Split the day of the festival (didn't know it existed). On my bus ride to Split was full of these Spanish guidos...and they say Americans are obnoxious and annoying  Also, outside of Dubrovnik, this was the first time I ever saw a ton of Americans in Croatia.

It created a mess leaving the city, a bus ride back to Zadar turned out to be a 6 hour adventure with me being dropped off at a rest stop on the highway for 2 hours waiting for a random bus to pick me up there, luckily it all worked out well :howler: :lala:
