Any comments on what should we expect from Bayern?

Mark van Bommel was diplomacy personified when asked who he would play in his position in the Champions League quarter-final first leg in Milan, where the Dutch ace will be watching from the stands with suspension. "We have a very strong squad," he commented, referring the questioner to the head coach.

Ottmar Hitzfeld has been equally unwilling to name names, but his starting line-up for Saturday's Bundesliga clash at home to Schalke 04 contained a heavy hint when Andreas Ottl stood in for the injured Owen Hargreaves. The Munich-born product of the club youth system appeared in the starting line-up for only the third time since Christmas, compared to an impressive 15 starts in the first half of the season.

Probable line-ups:

AC Milan: Dida - Oddo, Nesta, Maldini, Jankulovski - Pirlo - Gattuso, Seedorf - Kaka - Gilardino, Inzaghi

Bayern Munich: Rensing - Sagnol, Lucio, van Buyten, Lahm - Salihamidzic, Ottl, Hargreaves, Schweinsteiger - Makaay, Podolski

Referee: Mr Baskakov (Russia)

Excellent team spirit

Key personalities Oliver Kahn and Mark van Bommel both miss the match with suspension, but the coaching staff have utter faith in number two keeper Michael Rensing, with Hargreaves set for the pivotal role in midfield. "The team will pull even closer together and try to compensate for the missing players," Hoeneß reckoned. That was assuredly the evidence before and during the journey to a significant appointment in Milan.

Every time we meet Bayern, we ignore the hype and go on to play them off the pitch. These matches are always the same, The Germans bet on physical, direct play but come up short against the MUCH more technically gifted and MUCH more experienced Rossoneri.

I am thinking 1 goal will not win this leg... The Germans will need to score at least 2 to win... Makaay has been playing so well of late though, so he will be one to watch. Personally, I am curious to see how Poldi reacts to kicked up competition. Both he and Schweine are the two who could have the biggest impact, IMHO.
