So, we guaranteed 1st spot in our group ahead of todays last group game, which means that on 15 December we'll get to know who our next opponents will be, naturally a 2nd spot team, so our possibilities are:

Barcelona
Inter
Roma
Real Madrid
Man Utd or Celtic
Arsenal / Porto
PSV
(excluding Lille, or AEK)

So who you guys prefer?? And honestly how far do you think Milan can go this year? (if we took into consideration that CL is the primary objective)
Are we anyehere near competing those teams??
How bad do we need transfers in January to acheive in CL??

You can't draw Inter or Roma, not at this stage of the competition.

Seeing as UEFA can't arrange an umpteenth Chelsea-Barca encounter, they'll probably fix a Real-Milan clash..

I was thinking of creating a similar thread since 3 days! How lazy am I

Any way, I think the restriction of two clubs from the same country meeting in the knock out stage was canclled! In any case, All possible oponents are tough! We simply have no chance, with the current squad, to advance into the Quarter finals. Reinforcments are a must in January, or else here come Intertoto cup :depress:

double post!

i't really doesn't matter who we get. with the current squad we bow out either next round (very probable) or the following. no need to be a rocket scientist to figure that out. we really have other issues then cl this year. squad needs to be rebuild and fourth place in seria secured to avoid further damage.

if we were not so lucky to be drawn in one of the easiest groups ever assembled in cl history we probably would have waved already good bye to this competition.

only a miracle in january could rescue our cl mission and i have total confidence in our management that they will do their utmost to prevent that wonder from happening.

:yuck:

It's still in force for this round. Pity, because I'd much rather have us face Milan than Chelsea or Lyon. ;)
You'll end up with FC Bayern ;)

Not necessarilly so. In the knockout stages, Milan's current form of eeking out goals and getting draws on the road is the kind of stuff that can win championships. In the scudetto, it leads to 12th place, but in the CL anything can happen. I agree we are not anything close to championship form, but anything can happen now.

I wouldn't mind playing Real. We can beat them, have done so repeatedly over the years and the current Real team are not scaring anybody.

Man U and or Celtic would not be bad, either. Of course, I think Benfica has a chance of getting second spot and could take this spot. I'd play them in a heart beat as Milan always beat them and the current Benfica is not a world beater by any means.

your right the Real mAdrid squad is odd, they should not put any fear into one's heart and I think most people will under estimate them.

However, they get the results

Hello everyone. My first post here, though I've been a "lurker" for a very long time:)

For the CL draws, I believe it doesn't really matter who we get. In our current form, we can even lose to Bolton. I say lets meet the toughest. That might probably a shot in the arm for the team. If we win fine, if we don't...,well we aren't actually betting our last pennies on us being champs this season.

I'm just not happy CA might (or has already decided to ) play kaka, Pirlo, Gila etc tonight. With the squad depleted as it is at the moment, there's no point risking further injuries in a "meaningless" match.

hello, welcome here =)

yes, I agree with you. Why play kaka, when he was lately injured. I think we should rather concentrate on getting points in the league

all the teams in the second stage in the competition have a very good chance at knocking us out, all of them
And demandred, Roma is great in Italy but in the euro stage, I think you just would not stand a chance against milan, its a different ball game. Much like it is for us to play against you in Italy :)

Izecson, there's only five possibilites for Milan as meeting Inter and Roma is not possible.

So we have only 5 choices, 3 of which are already known(Barca-Real-PSV). Today's results will tell us the other 2. But I'm already of the opinion we'll draw a big team again this year (just like Man U and Bayern in the last 2 years).....I have a feeling it's gonna be Real

I'm not an unbeliever in those conspiracy theories by UEFA when it comes to draws. They did it with Barca-Chelsea,and if they were to carry on with the 'tradition' expect a Milan-Barca matchup this year (and next year too). Three years in a row, and they'll find a different pair after that!

Okay, but some people say that that rule is cancelled!!!

Anyway, I opened the thread to get an idea on our status in Europe, our current squad compared with Barca's, Arsenal's, R.Madrid's and Man Utd's squads u know!!!

Names like Oddo, Suazo, Zapata, Di Natale, Amelia, Buffon, Trezeguet...etc are eligible to get on our CL name list if we are serious about CL this year..

Speaking of Suazo, Cesare Maldini made an excellent tactical point the other day. He has his doubts over the Honduran making it at Milan as he thrives on counter-attacking football, where he can locate and exploit spaces using his pace and athleticism.

I quite agree with that opinion.

The UEFA Champions League draw will see group winners paired off with runners-up from another group, with the latter playing the first legs at home. Teams from the same country cannot meet each other. The first UEFA Cup draw will see the winners of one group playing the third-placed team from another section, while teams entering the competition from the UEFA Champions League will face group runners-up. The group winners and runners-up will play their respective second legs at home while, in all ties, clubs from the same association must be kept apart.

Just to clarify for everyone :)

I quite agree with that opinion.

A lot of these up and comers who play for smaller clubs and make a goal scoring name for themselves are counter attackers or target men who wind up totally out of place in a more build up and possession style of offense.
