Car buying time... well not immediately.

Suggestions please.

Sounds like my 1993 Mazda MX6 finally bit the dust. My latest quote on all repairs is $1600, i figure, even if the thing was in perfect working order I'd barely get $3000 for it if im lucky... so why bother paying 50% on repairs when things just start breaking out during this period of the cars lifespan.

Waste of money. Although I love that damn thing :moan: I might just keep it around and make it a small project and upgrade it etc.

Anyway.

Suggestions. I was close to getting an Audi about a year back but opted out because I knew an Economic storm was brewing so I didn't bother then, I needed to know I had a job and my car was already running fine etc.

So now. I only have this car on my shortlist so far

2008 Volkswagen R32. I freaking love this thing. Considering these weren't released in Canada, it'll be a nice novelty on top of that to have :). Im hoping the Foreign Exchange strengthens in favour of the Canadian dollar to the US so i can steal a deal down there.

Any other suggestions, I want to stay Euro... Japanese is fine. No American cars please :).

All of the above if possible.

The R32, I found one for about $24,599 in the states which is a great deal, only with about 30,000 KM on it. Im sure I can negotiate down to about $22,000. Looks, power, economical in terms of price.

What happened to the MX-6 did the transmission go like it did on mines? The car stopped going in reverse for me and I dumped it. Right now I still have my Acura TL (love it 43,000+ miles on it now) and Mercury Mountaineer gas guzzler (great comfortable SUV for long trips and more than 2 people)

I love the new Honda Accord, in black. Hate what Nissan did to the new Maximas :yuck: If I were looking for a car I'd pick up a Honda Accord, nice price, nice looks.

Where to start man...

The ball joints are F'd.
Belts are F'd
Inner Rods are about to break
Coolant Leak because the springs are broken
Oil Leak starting through the gaskets
+ Labour = Game Over

:eekani: damn but yeah it is like almost 17 years old and you're not an old man keeping his car in tip-top shape driving it 50 miles a year at most.

You really like the Wolkswagens though? they just look too girly especially if white. But then again so does the MX-6 :howler: if you want to stick with hatchbacks maybe a Mazda 3? or maybe an Acura RSX?

Honda Insight?

You got 22.000 for a car? You must be a rich bastard. :D

I had an a3 from 99 but sold it and have a seat leon from 2002 now.

I loved the a3 but it had too much KM's on it and it was time for a new car.

I looked at the A3, and the BMW 130i, which is similar in design to the 118D. I wasn't the biggest fan of the 118, but the A3 was decent.

The Mini Cooper is on my mind, but not on the list... if that makes any sense :D. It's still kind of a fad here...

I think inflation in the US is going to start creeping up by the end of this year, they're in deflation right now... By maybe December or January, if my prediction is right, and if Canada's economy stays as stable as it has so far in this economic slump, i should be able to shed off 20% of the value on the conversion which would be great... Gotta play the patience game. :)

Wow 130i? You sure you want a economical car? :howler: Its a petrol monster that thing...Well my dad bought me a 2002 fiat punto for my first car :D Its cool, the girls love it, only because i spent loads of money installing a flip out head unit with a television :D

How about an rx-8 my friend? Volkswagens never really appealed to me but people who have it, love it. For me, I've owned two mazdas and they both impressed me so I'd look into a mazda before considering any others. Plus the rotary engine....mmmmmmm zoom zoom

Why don't i just smear shit all over my face while im at it. :D Can you imagine how much I would spend on just bringing that thing here and then converting it to a North American standard, it would probably cost double the car.

If you want to look like a pimp, get a modified Serçe.

You're so funny, you should be a guest at Saturday Night Life.

I might go a bit overboard and go for a BMW Comfortable, silver, runs on gas and is from 2001. Best price I could get is 12000. What do you think?

It's a 4 cylinder car as compared to its counterpart's 6 cylinder mx6 but both have a ridiculously solid engine. Will last you a fair amount of time, if you're not hung up on performance per say and would rather have something that will likely get you from point a to point b with minimal fuss i'd go for it. Im sure you can get a decent one that was taken care of for 2G's now, the mx5 and 6's are cult classic cars, lots of people really maintain those well. Except me :D

EDIT: by the way look at the standard transmission ones, the automatics are very unreliable and will cause you lots of headache.

Importing a car from Germany costs 4k Hagi.

Marcus, you drive a hummer? :howler:

Atm I have a golf 5, I was going to buy a leon untill I got 3k extra from the customs. Wish I bought another car though. God damn golfs are everywhere, but theyre solid though.

There's one going at auction pretty cheap and in good nick, I'm semi-tempted to take a flutter.

I figure I can get something good for 4-5 times the price, or get this dirt cheap and enjoy it for a year or three. Though you wouldn't be able to **** or kidnap even a midget in it :lala:
