^ Is Jasmin Muharemovic Esad Plavi's brother? Because it says so on wikipedia but they also stated that Esad Plavi was born in Cape town, South Africa so I don't really know

I'm addicted to Serif Konjevic. I love his voice. Growing up my uncle got me into him because he use to listen to him all the time. Best live performer imo, as long as he doesn't fcuk around too much and show off, since he ruins the melody that way.

Zagrli me, zagrli

Jasenko Houra is hardly an authority on anything, let alone rock and roll...
Yeah, I agree with you, but I also agree with what Houra said there. And besides, what does it say about Dugme and Houra when that same Dugme jumped on the Novi val bandwagon that Houra helped create? A bandwagon that, at least in Houra's case, was pretty derivative as it was.

I like Bijelo Dugme to the extent that they're one of the few bands who everyone knows the lyrics to. But, at the same time, it's just a guilty pleasure... I can't really take them seriously. "Ne spavaj mala moja" is such a blatant rip-off of Led Zeppelin's "Rock'n'roll" that even my American friends notice it.

Hemon really nailed it... they're the worst of 70s Anglo-rock mixed with the worst of Bosnian kafana-folk. That's exactly why they were so successful too: they tapped into the market for turbofolk twenty years before turbofolk even existed.

Or, as my dad put it: "Indexi su za prave Sarajlije, a Bijelo dugme za sitnu raju." :D

I don't disagree at all, but there is one thing that always sores my eyes when it comes to this. Namely, put in a context of what the music scene had to offer at that time and, even more importantly, put in a broader socio-cultural context, Bijelo Dugme was as avant-garde as it could get for 95% of the public. They, of course, were far from it but to suggest anything else that gained any kind of popularity in those days was, is nothing but delusional. The examples are countless. Therefore, every quasi snobist attempt of dismissing their music purely as a turbo folk equivalent of that era really means walking on thin ice. I'm sure your dad's comment comes accompanied by a little wink but black and white it is all surely not.

Bijelo Dugme's best time was Bebek and Tifa in regards to quality of music as it was more pure rock, so Mid/late 70's and early 80's. I talked to a Polish guy in his 40s the other day and he knew who they were. He said in a funny way, you know this song called 'tako ti je mala moja kad ljubi Bosanac' :D, i said 'of course', i thought it was great :D.

Since everyone's posted similar music, here's some from a few different genre's.

Some great visuals...

And last, i am a huge fan of this guy and was saddened by his death in 2007. He also created the soundtrack for the film Remake, a great movie. If this guy was born or lived in the west, he'd be considered a genius but instead he was someone far too advanced for the primitive post-war Balkans. Nek ti Allah podari vjecni rahmet, Adi.

Yes, and that reminds me: I'd highly recommend to all of you to listen to the Indexi song I just posted on the last page the next time you toke up. In fact, just go get high and listen to the 60s Indexi in general: Negdje na kraju u zatisju, Boj na misaru, Nase doba, Ruke pruzam, Jutro ce promijeniti sve, Plima, etc. All of these are top class songs that they made in the period 1967-68 and that stand their ground with anything made in that genre and at that time anywhere in the world - period. If only they had sat down and recorded a full-length LP in 1968 with those 6 songs plus "Zašto je prazan čitav svijet" (solid album cut) and another 15 minutes worth of quality material, it would have been an absolute 5-star masterpiece and hands down the greatest Bosnian album of all time. Unfortunately, Yugoslav bands didn't make much besides EPs in those days.
