Buffon, Sirigu, Consigli

Abate, Ogbonna, Santon, Balzaretti, Bonucci, Barzagli, Chiellini, Ranocchia

Pirlo, Verratti, De Rossi, Marchisio, Nocerino, Aquilani

Diamanti, Destro, Borini, Giovinco, Cassano, Balotelli

We need to take home Ws in both games.

I wouldn't disapprove Veratti starting over Pirlo in Armenia game. Pirlo needs rest BAD. He got subbed on Tuesday. Pirlo gets subbed? What in the actual ****!?! Talk about some bizzaro world shit right there.

How strong is Denmark these days? Would like to see this squad called, but of course won't happen:

Buffon, Marchetti, Sorrentino

Abate, Criscito, Santon/Donati, Balzaretti, Bonucci, Barzagli, Chiellini, Bonera/Bocchetti

Pirlo, Verratti, De Rossi, Marchisio, Nocerino, Lodi

Diamanti, Osvaldo, Insigne, Giovinco, Cassano, Balotelli

Is Santon decent with Newcastle now or still just good going forward?

We've got one real star: Morten Olsen. The squad is average, especially the defence, so quite easy to create chances against us. We usually create chances as well ourselves, but with Bendtner not getting any match practice at all (we could very well be forced to start with Cornelius, a 19-year old FC Copenhagen striker who has shown a lot of promise in the Danish league) there'll be no one to finish them off.

In other words, Italy should win quite easily.

By the way, yes Osvaldo instead of Borini in my squad.

Because he wasn't doing anything but losing the ball at all times then.

Buffon, Sirigu, Sorrentino; Abate, Ogbonna, Santon, Bonucci, Barzagli, Chiellini, Ranocchia; Pirlo, Verratti, De Rossi, Florenzi, Poli, Marchisio, Nocerino, Giaccherini; Diamanti, Destro, Borini, Quagliarella, Balotelli

Quagliarella should get called up because of his performances lately with Juve. I really think Ranocchia would get a call-up as well because he's been consistent this year in Milan.

Prandelli said there will be no new call ups for these games as he's already introduced many new players but he also pointed out the need to renovate the squad using the diffrence in Spains 2010 team and 2012 team , specifically refrencing the number 50% new squad as a legitimate figure.

In my opinion players axed eventually

Borini
Montolivio
Balzaretti
Maggio
Di Natale
Giach
Nocerinho
Diamanti
Motta

Thats close to 50% right there

Here is the list of called players:

Goalkeepers:Buffon (Juventus), De Sanctis (Napoli), Sirigu (Paris St. Germain), Viviano (Fiorentina);

Defenders:Abate (Milan), Balzaretti (Roma), Barzagli (Juventus), Bonucci (Juventus), Chiellini (Juventus),Criscito (Zenit St. Petersburg), Maggio (Napoli), Ogbonna (Torino), Ranocchia (Inter);

Midfielders:Candreva (Lazio), De Rossi (Roma), Diamanti (Bologna), Giaccherini (Juventus), Marchisio (Juventus), Montolivo (Milan), Pirlo (Juventus), Verratti (Paris St. Germain);

Forwards: Balotelli (Manchester City), Destro (Roma), El Shaarawy (Milan), Gilardino (Bologna), Giovinco (Juventus), Osvaldo (Roma).

Gila-gol is back! :D Candreva too. And Criscito.

What's with the lack of Cassano and Di Natale?

Is there an official squad anywhere?

I hope he tries Pirlo and Veratti simultaneously. I really want Balotelli to shred Armenia, and then bring that confidence into Denmark match.

Also, quite disappointed not to see Marchetti as one of the four keepers :howler:

#24 ·
He calls 4 keepers because his giving a message, that its between these 4 (or 3 cause Gigi is anyway), also to give some NT football taste (not just if you play or not, but being part of the group and traveling together etc, to be used to, so if wc starts going abroad and being part of it isnt a shock last minute decision.

His not really going to call them 4 for every game from here on i think.

Anyway, how come no one has pointed this out, but wtf is Gilardino doing there? Should be over for him as far as the NT football goes.

#27 ·
Gilardino is the same age as Cassano anyway.

#30 ·
Unfair comparison, one was a regular, other didnt play during 04-06 and 08-10.

Toni, i dont know what was the reason, i think people are going too far trying to figure out why is one there and one isnt. Cassano will be 32 anyway come WC, i thought most of you had problems if too many over 30 players are in the squad, looking back at the times of 08-10 when Italy was considered to have one of the oldest teams of all time.

Maybe his looking to the future, maybe his rotating, testing out new things cause Cassano isnt a long term option, maybe its his health issue, dont want to overload him with too many games after the heart op, given he didnt play 90mins games in euro either.

#29 ·
Agreed on Destro. 5 games, zero goals.

Gilardino is in-form. Experience-in-form. Like Marco Di Vaio rediscovering his scoring boots at Bologna much like his Parma days...

Those type of players rarely got call-ups by Italian managers. It'll be interesting to see if Gila can prove himself again at the highest level.

#31 ·
Bianchi, 29 old has also 4 goals for Torino. Dont see him being called up. I am sorry but Gila is nothing special, i thought it was over for him after 2010, he doesnt have the class to change things on the highest level. Also i dont think he works for the team Prandelli has right now, if we talk about the system of 2012 euro for instance.

#33 ·
Yea Osvaldo is worthy of a spot, and a starting spot in that imo.

Destro on the other hand is mindboggling. He absolutely doesn't deserve a spot in the senior side - and considering the so important games the U-21 side have, letting him sit on the bench and probably not see a minute with the senior team, instead of playing a lead role with the U-21 team is flat out silly.

#35 ·
what should the team be then for the Armenia game?

Buffon; Abate, Barzagli, Chiellini, Criscito; Marchisio, Pirlo, De Rossi; Diamanti; Balotelli, Osvaldo

#36 ·
Perhaps Pirlo should be rested for Denmark. He has shown a little fatigue.

Armenia will probably bunker down, so I prefer the 4-3-3 against them with Balotelli, Osvaldo, and Giovinco in attack. Verratti in place of Pirlo.

In a 4-3-1-2, Montolivo to replace Pirlo. I want to see Verratti as an AM. Prandelli is certainly not foreign to the idea of playing CMs in the AM role and had hinted before that Verratti is a possibility there. We've seen what Diamanti can do, which is just alright. Lets see what someone else can do.

Ogbonna is now out with an injury. Abate didn't train because of a cold.

#38 ·
I don't think he meant to under-estimate. Pirlo is old and Denmark is meant to be the tougher opponent. However, I'd play Pirlo in both games

#46 ·
You are facing the NT that were second only to Spain this past summer.

Though its how they do vs the little teams like Armenia that can be worrisome.

#48 ·
Overall you can see that the squad is gaining identity and making progress, despite the inclusion of Gilardinho. What I am dissapointed with is the retreat to Montolivio as an Am again. Playing for the points fine no arguments Monto will get the job done against Armenia but Prandelli be ware this round and the next round of qualifiers will be over before you know it , in no time it will be october 2013 and the world cup will be breathing down your neck. Get the points but don't lose the plot , find the shape , decide who is your plan A and plan B and stick with it. Live by Montolivio die by Montolivo. (and Im no hater of his , fine player , magical against germany but he should be a back up regista for this squad behind Verratti even and should not live to see the world cup unless Pirlo retires or Verratti is injured even then I'd rather see De rossi as regista.)

Possible Treaquartista at the moment Insigne , El Sharaway or Verratti even.
Candreva gives another option on the flank for a 352 so thats positive .

would love to see the sqaud evolve into this by 2014 exactly 12 new faces , Prandelli's own 50% mark. By no means a young squad but certainly a fresh one.
