Բարձրագույն Խումբ 2007 - Armenian Premier League 2007

Here's the thread for new season of premier league. I think it's stil to early to rate chances of the teams - we have to wait for the winter transferes. But I hope that the race for the title will be more though and Pyunik won't win title so easy, I hope Banants and MIKA will finally show that they are ready to play for the championship.

Good idea with the opening of the new thread.

I'm also hoping for an Ararat championship. It will definitely bring interest to Armenian football from Armenians. I would probably expect a four team race for first. Then a four team race for fifth, since I expect Kilikia and Ulysses to do better. Unfortunately, as it is now, I can only see Shirak in the relegation spot...

UGANDAN striker Eugene Sepuya has completed a dream career transfer to Armenian soccer giants Banants FC for an undisclosed fee.

The lofty striker, who has been at Colorado Rapids in the US, signed a two-year deal to switch to the former Soviet state with the help of FIFA agent Antonio Carlo. Carlo helped Uganda sign German Laszlo Csaba as national coach.

“Eugene did very well during his week- long trial in Armenia. Everybody was impressed with his physical presence and hard work,” Carlo said.

The 6-foot striker, who played for Mbale Heroes and SC Villa between 2000-2004, scored three goals in his ultimate trial match.

lol if his 'dream transfer' is to Banants, then I'm not sure how good this guy is.
And since when is Banants a "football giant"?:pp

You got a point. but I find it suprising he's coming from a league like the MLS and is going to the Armenian League instead.

But i guess this probably proves Banants won't be in any kind of financial trouble in the near future.

g'day fellas. just a few questions.

why is the APL dominated by teams based in yerevan? there are 10 regions in armenia, each with a healthy amount of people in it. the team based in Kapan is doing awsome in terms of attendences ext... Plus spreading the teams out will solidify the fact thats its Armenian premier league, hence everyone should be involved. But I guess thats a money issue though. pisses me off!

another thing, how can u guys have such a vested interest in a competition, when even the locals dont seem to give a dam about it. is the quality of play actually decent? anyway i think this season i'll try and pay attention a bit more, and learn a few things, cause i sense from you guys that there is great potential.

Yes and it's important now, because Banants is the side who needs serious transferes, Pyunik needs to just keep their squad with players like Pachaijan, Aleksanyan, Arzumanyan or Avetisyan and they will be champions once again.

You're right, but its not as easy as it sounds. Playing in Yerevan brings more opportunities to the team and its players. Plus most of the owners are from Yerevan, so its only logical that they start a team in the capital. I also think that this is the reason why the attendence is so low. There are too many teams in Yerevan, and the locals don't know who to support and just don't care anymore. Teams from outer regions on the other hand, like Gandzasar, have more people attending the games. This has to the with the fact that the population of Kapan has one team to support, and they do it. It has to do with pride and recognition.
Just give it some time. In the near future we will see more teams emerging in different regions of the country. Many Yerevan clubs will give way to teams from the provinces as football awarness grows around the country.

As for your other question, locals have much more stuff on their minds than football. Such as how to put food on the table in difficult conditions. Sport is only a secondary priority. But as the quality of life gets better, football will follow.
Supporting Armenian clubs is important to diaspora Armenians, because they feel like they are part of something within Armenia. You know what I mean?

yeh i get ya. i suppose,i didnt think that people in armenia are under great finantial strainhope things get better. but yeh, as you said its important for the diaspora to maintain links with the homeland, whether it be sporting or otherwise. now to decide who i shall support :D
Well I wouldn't say that the financial situation is too bad, but Armenia ain't no USA either.
May I suggest you wait and see which club apeals more to you.
