Another relegation battler away, it's not going to be easy. Matri is suspended for this one.

They just beat Lazio at home as well.

Quagliarella's back anyway, **** Matri. Poor man's Trezeguet. Not even that, actually.

Novara has no room to sit back and play for a point, but then again, neither did Cesena. Still, they'll be dangerous on the counter, I suppose.

Not looking forward to it.

Agreed, very unimpressed with Matri against Cesena, no awareness of what his teammates are doing around him, and his sharpness in front of goal as we've all witness has been very underwhelming for most of the season.

while cesena were all but guaranteed for serie b, novara still has a remote chance with 8 points off and 4 games to go. and novara plays markedly better at home and pulled off a few great results against the big teams. and yes, we struggle against the small teams who sit back, lock down, and defend in numbers, etc. so, another not-easy game awaits, except novara is not as good in defense.

we need to play with a little more patience and less directness. play with a little more calm and focus rather than going gung-ho all time. and, of course, really need to reduce the number of mistakes in the last third.

quags back is a boon. huge diff b/w him and matri atm, esp. with regards to movement and holdup-play/sheilding/50-50s. matri is more suited to a counterattacking attack, but there's no excuse for him to not body up and play more physical and put in the effort.

How's Matri suited to a counterattacking style? His touch is that of a cloven hoofed animal, he cannot dribble, his passing is rather poor, and strangely (since he's supposed to be a poacher) he lacks composure oftentimes.

Well in my opinion, in the summer, Borriello needs to go....and one of Quags and Matri needs to go. Juve should try to transform their attack in the summer.

I love the way the team is playing. Just wish they had more cutting edge in front of goal. Even though Vucinic played well....he continues to be wasteful with his own attempts which is frustrating.

I think Borriello will stay. Conte has always mentioned if he had a pre-season with us he will be in a better shape. It could be one of Matri and Quag that will leave. Anyway Novarra away is going to be tought, i think in the last 6 or 7 games they only conceded twice and they are not beaten at home since they played with Chievo. We have to be more clinical in front of the goal. This is our last away match of the season.

This is our last away match of the season.
We will also play Cagliari away. Even when its played in Trieste they will have the most allocation of fans, and it will be in their 2nd stadium so to speak since they have used it more than once now.

I also think Borriello will stay. Conte loves him for some reason and will keep him. I don't think Matri will leave either since we just renewed his contract along with De Ceglie last month. It doesn't make sense to sell him so soon.

Conte can keep whoever he wants, yes even Borriello, if that's what he wants.

But my question is, who is going to score the goals in this team? Our top scorer is Matri, who has a paltry 10 goals, and our next best scorer is Marchisio...

If we keep Borriello, Matri, Quag, and Vucinic, who's going to score the goals? None of these guys have been consistent goalscorers throughout their careers. And if we're only playing with 2 strikers next season, where's the space to sign a world class striker?

Someone has to go.

What you describe here is Iaquinta, not Matri. Recall Matri from past two seasons. I agree with the composure part though. Matri is a good, or even a very good, finisher, but he misses half the chances because of lack of composure.

Yes, Conte did say that at least twice, but that doesn't mean he wants Borriello here next season. He could just be defending his player, providing him with more confidence, or defending his selection, plus it's the truth. Marotta, on the other hand, already said that Borriello won't be bought. Conte and Marotta don't always agree with transfers; so, that's not a guarantee. But, as aforementioned, Conte didn't say the opposite either, and it simply doesn't make sense to spend 8m on Borriello when we'll be getting a starting 1st striker and either or both of Matri and Quags, who is close to signing a contract as well, will be backups.

Novara - Juve Preview

Next up is Novara for the Piedmont derby at the Silvio Piola where they have accumulated 71% for their total points this season.

I expect us to play with the same tactics that we used against Cesena, presurring them from midfield in a 352 formation using wing backs but with some slight changes to the starting lineup.

Chiellini, Bonucci and Barzagli will again form up the defensive line against Novara. This solid and reliable rearguard has conceded only 1 goal in the previous 8 matches and hopefully can continue this impressive trend and nick another clean sheet with the help of Buffon.

Caceres was played in the right wing back position but didn't make an impact in the match so Lichtsteiner is expected to take his place.

On the left De Ceglie is set to continue unless Conte wants to spring a surprise by playing forgotten man Estigarribia here. De Ceglie had a good match against Cesena though, almost scoring twice from two headers.

The midfield trio of Pirlo, Marchisio and Vidal will continue to drive the team forward. Vidal in particular is in hot form scoring 2 goals during the last 3 encounters, forcing Marotta to put a 'Not for Sale' tag over his head after apparent interest from Madrid. Pirlo is relishing the Scudetto race against Milan and desperately wants to put one over Allegri and Milan who didnt fight for his contract extension and was pushed to the sidelines during his final days there. Marchisio is also playing well putting himself in dangerous positions to score and also creating chances like the beautiful chip to Matri in the last match.

Up front Quagliarella is set to return back after he served his suspension to partner Vucinic, another player in great form. Vucinic had a hand in all 4 goals against Roma and also the goal against Cesena (assist to Borriello). He also got us the penalty that Pirlo missed. Only missing from him is a due goal now.

Novara in particular are not a very defensive team as they like to play football with a trequartista (Mazzarani) behind 2 strikers, prima punta (Caracciolo) and seconda punta (Marimoto/Mascara). They are expected to continue with their 4312 formation with the only change being Mascara (who scored a beautiful free kick after coming in from the bench against Lazio) replacing the ineffective Morimoto. Caracciolo has a habit of scoring against big teams and he should be closely marked. Rigoni is their top scorer and assistman but that was mostly during the early part of the season as he has only scored 1 goal in the last 17 matches. Mazzarani is their playmaker and should be stoped from receiving the ball and moving to around and creating chances.

Nice preview. Didn’t know Novara has done so well at home than away. The artificial grass may have played a part in it. They indeed do play an open game mostly and had 14 shots against us last time, plus they need the maximum 3 pts to maintain the hope of survival. So, an open game is a possibility.

If I may, here’s another preview.

I like the 433. We didn’t have too much luck creating chances with 352 last game, and the synthetic pitch will make the wingbacks tired again. Quags and Del Piero may not be 100% fit, otherwise I prefer Ale over Vucinic since he has the creativity and calm for and is better in unlocking defenses.

I find it strange that this season's Juve has been able to go top of Serie A without a top goalscorer with 20+ goals as is usually need to win a league.

I see your point pav and I kind of agree, especially that Im not expecting Novara to be as defensive as Cesena so we don't need to have the extra wingbacks pressuring in midfield and might go back to 433.

But I believe Conte wants to utilise the players who are in good form, namely our 3 defenders and De Ceglie. And the best way to utilise all of them without benching anyone is to go with the 352. Also, Vucinic is excelling in the second striker role of the 352. and with Pepe injured and Giacchi not at his best we dont have someone to play on the right side of the 433.

It's a testament to how much our midfield has contributed to scoring over the course of the season, and how much we've achieved in spite of their underwhelming record.
