what is his ancestry ? Coates sounds an english name.
Sebastian Coates has German, Scottish and Spanish origin, i read that his grandad was from Scotland.

And Coates sounds much more Italian than English...
Coates is very much a British name. Although it seems to pronounced "Co-ah-tes" in his case for whatever reason.
