so I was watching the Gold Cup final on Setanta Sports and just before the start of the game the commentator says MLS clubs are about English League One/League Two level in strength. I don't watch MLS much but who knows maybe that's true and most clubs there would have no chance to escape relegation in English Championship. any informed opinions about this?

personally I'm ready to believe this statement about MLS being weaker than most people think. We had this Estonian guy Lindpere playing for some Norwegian fishing village club and he wasn't even highly rated there. then he somehow got a contract with NY Red Bulls and bam he was their MVP last season.

Lindpere was awesome in this CM00/01 game that a guy on another board had.

But yeah, even SPL failures can get succeed in the MLS, & most of the SPL is at League One level.

you can add a guy like Luke Rodgers, who played for Notts County yet he has 5 goals this year with Red Bulls. It helps Henry is on the team, but he could be a "MLS All-Star" player :D

I am not one to bash the MLS, its an ok league with better attendances than many of the middle range leagues in Europe, but yes, the quality is Championship at best. MLS sides can't even beat EPL 'B' teams in summer exhibitons

Nowhere near it. Most championship sides would piss the MLS.

MLS is about on a par with the SPL.

MLS is the best league in the uni as far as i am concerned

MLS is low quality ... I think they only work on the fitness level.

MLS needs good coach and plenty of good players.

I watch sometimes NY Red Bulls and you can wonder that in this league anyone can make it :D

yes that is the issue, I only played it at a high school level but they timed us running 2 miles (had to do it under 12 minutes) to be even considered on the first day of training. After that it was 5-6 weeks of fitness and we first used a ball only one week before the season and even then it was only practicing crosses, corners and scrimmages. Nothing about tactics, passing, skill etc...And we had a former USNT player as an assistant coach :howler:

The MLS is really poor quality. I don't like watching any games(other than San Jose). The games are very boring, and so are the commentators. Their reactions to a goal are dreadful. I would really rather watch a League One/Two game(and it has a better atmosphere than the MLS).
