Europa League final, first ever with two Portuguese teams, team lineups:

Porto:

Otamendi30
Rolando14
Alvaro Pereira5
Freddy Guarín6
Fernando25
João Moutinho8
Hulk12
Falcao9
Silvestre Varela 17

Braga:

1Artur Moraes

2Rodríguez
3Paulão
28Sílvio
88Vandinho
27Custódio
30Alan
45Hugo Viana
18Lima
9Paulo César

Braga had not bite in the final 3rd. Frankly, it looked like they could play another games vs FCP and not score. Helton was seriously challenged once, but he made the save.

Next year, CL. Just like last time. :D

I dunno, if we can keep this team together and add a better RB, I like our chances against most teams. After Barca/Real/ManUtd, I think we can go toe-to-toe with any team in the world. A CL semi-final wouldn't be a surprise.

I'm sad to say that I don't think any team that's not from England or the two top Spanish teams can be favorites to win a CL, then you have the two Milan teams who can come up just under and maybe a Bayern from time to time, their money is just too deep. There may be a team that challenges this theory of mine maybe once every ten years but that's it.
Even Porto of 2004 had lucky breaks with Manchester United, and god only knows how Monaco got to the final.

The days of teams of teams from Portugal or Holland being relevant in Europe are over (I say that while agreeing with Josh that this FCP team can go to the CL semis this year or next). I think the difference between FCP and the mega-money teams is depth. Porto has terrific depth, but teams like ManU or Barca can bring guys off the bench that nobody else can due to their financial advantage.

Italy and even the well run Germans are pretty much there too. The CL has become a competition between 4 English teams and 2 Spanish. I'd say this stinks, but a majority of the global audience seems very happy with this setup. To this day, that '04 FCP winner still gets little to no respect outside Portugal. If they wore Arsenal's uniform, Mourinho would now be knows as Sir Jose.

You could buy Bosingwa back; seems like he's done at Chelsea.
Unfortunately, Bosingwa would demand high wages and would throw our salary structure out of whack. It'd be nice to have him come home, though. I still believe he has alot to contribute if he can stay healthy.

I'm sure PDC could arrange a method of compensation that would be sufficient for him :lala:

CL isnt that strong as it once was

italian teams are more accessible these days

the main problem is barcelona and real madrid and manchester. maybe chelsea or arsenal who always seems to do well against port.

the rest are nothing to worry about.
