I just heard that Romario is not selected for the Iceland friendly? True? If yes, is Felipao nuts? I don't mean to be rude and I have no intention of digging up another fight (some of you might think like that as I am an Argentine fan:rolleyes: ) but Felipao's persistent ignoring of Romario just leaves me utterly baffled:confused:
For all I know, Romario is one of the greatest players of the 90s and he still is damn good. I don't need to provide his recent stats, do I?
THEN WHY THE HELL IS HE NOT IN THE NT?????? If someone can win you the WC, its Romario...not Ronaldo:yuck:
You people must be thinking why I am so concerned about Brazil winning the WC:D.....but it's not that......I hate seeing such a magnificent player not playing for his country:( It would really really hurt me I was to be in his position:depress:

Utopia.

The last eyars manager's in Brazil have gained a lot of space in respect to players etc..... Specially after Tele Santana started winning trophies in Sao Paulo (before that he was considered a loser by almost everyone). THen came Luxemburgo , then Felipao. They all gained this divine authority that has been questioned in the last 2 years will all the pathetic results we have had.

Felipao has his own ways, as he has always had. He has a tough personality that clashed with Romario's even stronger personality in the Uruguay game, were supposely Romario slept with this flight attendent in Montivideo (I dont' know if this sotry is true, a journalist came up with it, but Romario denied it) Then came the sotry that Romario was going to operate his teeth and that is why he never wanted to go to play in Copa America in Colombia. But instead of operating his teeth he went to play a friendly with Vasco in Mexico. Vasco were having financial problems in paying hte wages of the players, and if Romario played they would get an extra 200% (something close to that) on top of the financial agreement. Romario played and Felipao went wild.

Felipao started ignoring the best striker the world has ever seen, and with his team making pathetic presentations one after the other, the pressure has just increased up to the point were the president of Brazil said that his Brazilian team is Romario and another 10 players (the majority of Brazilians think the same....including me).

So this week Ricardo Teixeira met with Romario and practically guaranteed that he will go to the world cup. It was already expected taht Felipao would not call Romario to this game , as he would look like a wimp, and this game is mailny to select the last group of players that will get into the final 23. It is alsmost guaranteed that Romario and Ronaldo will be called up against Yugoslavia at the end of the month, when the first team will play!;)

IF Felipao does not do that, he will not be the manager in the world cup, after all for 10 years the brazilian team has always been Romario and another 10 players....and i hope it remains like that for quite a while!;)

Now that makes me  Now let's just hope injury doesn't hit him hours before the players board the plane to Japan.......:(
France 98...........

All,

I think constant complaints when Romario is not picked for a game are no longer necessary. It is more important to examine and pay close attention to the player(s) picked in his place. I would love to see Romario in the WC proving to the world that he's still got some magic left. But Romario is 37 yrs old. If we can't win this WC without him, what about the next one (WC2006) and the next one. I have to believe that Brazilian football still produces players good enough to beat the best of France, Argentina, England, and Germany.

I do hope Felipao calls him but if not, I'll respect his decision and root for the person called in his place because, one thing is for sure, that person will be a Brazilian.

Felipao will call Romario when the time comes maybe VS yougslavia (wrong spelling), simply coz he knows that Romario is striker he has got ... okay second best after Ronaldo (hope he come back better then ever )

Felipao is trying players out he does'nt want to waste his own time watching Romario coz he knows what he is gonna see ... just like Romario said before: i'm like wine the older i get the better i become.... so it does'nt matter what his birth certificit say's, IMO i think he has falsefied his birth certificit when he was 14 to get a driving lincenes :D ..... what do u guys think ??:D

Billi,
Yes these complaints are necessary., Felipao does not own the national team and Romario is the best and favourite player of the country, so he should be included in the team. If he has 20, 34, or 58 years old it does not really matter unless he scores goals......and this year in Brazil only one guy has scored more than him and that is Dodo. Last year nobody scored mor than him in the Brazilian champioship....so it's Romario and another 10 players, preferabbly without Felipao coaching them!;)

Fan-demand for Romario soars during Brazil training

CUIABA, Brazil (Reuters) - Brazil's players have had to endure chants of 'Romario, Romario' during practice as supporters gave their backing to the absent veteran striker who has been repeatedly overlooked.
Thousands of fans turned up to watch the side practice for Thursday's friendly against Iceland and jeered the players when they missed goal-scoring opportunities.

The pressure increased when one fan began using a megaphone to make his feelings clear, before being persuaded by Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) staff to quieten down.

Romario, who led Brazil to the 1994 title when he scored five goals, is 36, but many Brazilians feel he is still the best striker in the country.

But coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has not been impressed and last week defied a wave of popular pressure, including lobbying from President Fernando Henrique Cardoso, as he again left Romario in the cold.

Supporters also jeered striker Washington, the man they felt was taking Romario's place, and chanted: 'Washington in the national team is an aberration.'

SAME POSITION

Afterwards, Washington told the Estado News Agency: 'It's not my fault Romario's not here.'

'As I play in the same position as he does, the fans pick on me a bit more. But I'm here on my own merits. Romario has had his chance, he has won a World Cup and now it's time for someone else to have a chance.'

Scolari, who in the past has argued with heckling fans, refused to rise to the bait this time and kept his cool.

Brazil will be fielding an experimental side in the match while Iceland have also brought a reserve team.

The game is not on one of the dates allocated by FIFA for international friendlies, meaning many foreign-based players are not available.

Brazil missed the last such date, February 12, prompting another wave of criticism for the CBF.

Iceland arrived on Monday and were confronted by a temperature difference of 40 Celsius as they got off the plane after a 36-hour journey.
