Fantastic work as always, but just in regards to the second half of the 2000s, I find the inclusions if Chivu, Torres and Riquelme quite strange considering others that were left out.

2nd half of the 80's team looks superb, even though a little too fantasy football by having Maradona and Gullit down low in midfield. Only players im not familiar with are the keeper and right back.

Good work though

dunno about Torres but Riquelme and Chivo are strange choices.

But a really great thread once again by Dearman. Especially these historical all-star XI by half decades, i haven't even seen this one tried before anywhere else.

The candidates of Riquelme is Xavi Hernandez but I think Riquelme is a lot better playmaker to operate and create the game in midfield and Argentina had very down after Maradona dropped him.

Chivu is available in both strongly defensive game and technique. Zambrotta is not as outstanding enough as the first half of the 2000s.

I would put Gerrard there or maybe Pirlo, Riquelme is out of position there and offers nothing defensively.

Chivu has never been this great as a LB in the first place, he offers very little in going forward compared to players like Evra (or Zambrotta in prime form). And Chivu has struggled a lot with maintaining a consistent form over the last years because of his injury problems. I'd put Evra there.

I see what you mean, but following that rationale Zidane shouldn't be fielded alongside Redondo on the "2nd half of the 90s" team either, and the midfield of the "1st half of the 2000s" is wiiiide open. If Zidane can be alongside Redondo, Riquelme can be alongside Essien and Kaka.

Gotta agree with Andy on this, Evra is a better option than Chivu.

Looking at the all time team it looks a bit unbalanced, but then you look from Beckenbauer and back, you just know that team won't concede many goals at all.

J. Leandro Andrade should be included in the 30's no?

No Ronaldo in the 00's?

He was voted goal.com striker of the year
and player of the decade ;)

WC winner, WC golden shoe, S. American Qualifier TOP scorer, Pichichi winner, etc.

He was a right-half. This position in that era is between DM and RB. I've Monti as DM already.
then you take out zezkpan # 32 out and make room for J. Andrade!

That's a good idea to include L.Andrade instead of Szepan. Let me think over about it.

Ronaldo no way beat Henry and Shevchenko in the early 2000s squad.

Henry and Shevchenko were selected in top five Ballon'dOr for almost every years in the era. Ronaldo just got best highlight in WC 2002 and 1-2 seasons for real madrid.

Henry and Sheva are SS you need a real ST and that's where R9 makes the difference! Sheva had one good season then he was average!
Henry got hot for 3 seasons...Ronaldo was good from 02-06 FACT
even 07-09 he's been better than Sheva!
