Seconded on the congrats for the thread, Kajoo, it is very nice.

Don't have pictures as my camera was broken at the time but when I went to the Playa Ancha cemetery in Valparaíso, Chile, which is right by the stadium of Santiago Wanderers, there were sections for that team and other footballers from the area that were very interesting to see, especially how they pretty much had a section for the footballers of one team.

Also, hadn't thought of this before, but I will be in Como briefly this summer and will definitely stop at the grave of Gigi Meroni and bring back some pics.

I have found out that Liedholm is also there.
I will surely make a visit soon. I have never been there because all my relatives are in different places but now that I have read all the people whose grave is there (mostly people out of football) the visit has become very interesting.
Very good call on the Cimeterio Municipale. I have never had a chance to visit in my previous visits to Torino, but hopefully I will get a chance this time. Would definitely like to see some of the football history there but also I must ask my family if any of my relatives are there. Unlikely though as most of them are from smaller towns in Piemonte.

thank you naervod, I´m happy that someone likes this thread. Gigi Meroni idea is brilliant, sadly I wasn´t able to find on web picture of his grave, only monument in Torino where he was killed by car.

In generally, I´m missing more italian players/coaches in this thread. Was searching Vittorio Pozzo, Giampiero Combi, Gigi Meroni and others but failed to find any. Same goes for Czechoslovakian players Planicka, Puc, Pešek-Káďa etc.

Austrian, Hungarian and German players on the other side are very well represented on web.

Some other former grates I would love to find are Bela Guttmann (died in Wien), Hugo Meisl (Wien), Istvan Nyers (Subotica ?) plethora of czech & slovak footballers (Pluskal, Novak, Reimann, Arpas, Laskov, Gogh), than some lesser know/forgotten footballers/coaches from central europe who passed away in Italy like Jozsef Banas (Milano ?), Cestmir Vycpalek (Palermo ?), Julius Korostelev (Torino), Julius Schubert (Torino), Ferenc Hirzer (Trento), József Viola (?)

A lot of work to do.

I was driving today through village Tvrdošovce in south-east Slovakia, when realised from this village comes Juraj Szikora (1947-2005), Inter Bratislava and Czechoslovak NT international.

Image

Szikora made his debut in NT on 18th May 1966 vs USSR at age of 19 years, 2 months and 16 days. Between 1966-1971, Szikora earned 21 caps / 2 goals.

In June 1966 Czechoslovakia played two games in Brazil vs home NT that ended up with loss (1:2) and a draw (2:2) Szikora shined and scored a goal on Maracana. After the 22 game, brazilian newspapers labelled him as a white Pelé. Unfortunately, his career was damaged by injuries and he couldn´t develop his great talent.

Juraj (Gyorgy) Szikora was laid to rest to the grave of his parents.
