As for Boulahrouz, is he really an upgrade on Oleguer?
How many seasons has it been since he's performed? and looking at his game as a whole, is he really an upgrade on Oleguer? (man marker with no passing skills)

Still that said, I hope we get rid of this fascination that we always need defenders who can pass. Bahia, Vidic, Ferdinand, Terry etc over Heitinga any day of the week :thumbsup:

Mertesacker, King, Woodgate, Hangeland too to name a few and I could go on.

It's worrying that we only have Mathijsen as a defender who can actually defend. Naturalizing Bahia will only be a matter of time if things continue as they are.

Nownow, let's not panic. Some good might still come from the likes of Marcellis, Braafheid etc. We're not completely dead yet.

As for Ajax's defense, selling Vermaelen was a bad idea. You desperately need someone new now. Defense was already looking like your weak point BEFORE you sold the Belgian.

Vermaelen still hasn't been sold. If the defense is organised well it can even look good with average players. See your AZ last season when the likes of Luykx and Jaliens came in.

That was a one-off. The flaws of that defense hidden by two facts:
1) we weren't active in Europe, and
2) De Zeeuw - Schaars pwned the midfield.
I don't think anyone (including us) is gonna repeat that particular stunt any time soon.

Luque has told Cadena Ser he's heard from his representative that by Friday he'll know if he's to report on the first training next or week or if he can leave to Malaga. There's talks about it right now. "Apparently Ajax has offered me elsewhere too, but I'm only leaving Ajax for Malaga. If the manager wants me, I'll be more than happy to come back to Ajax too."

Yeah, I would be happy to come back with that wage as well :groan:

Leonardo levert spullen in en vertrekt

Leonardo zal niet meer te bewonderen zijn bij Ajax, meldt RTV Noord-Holland. De Braziliaanse vleugelaanvaller heeft zijn spullen ingeleverd en heeft afscheid genomen van de club.

Algemeen directeur Rik van den Boog bevestigde aan de regionale zender dat Leonardo's tijdperk bij Ajax ten einde is gekomen. "Leonardo wilde geen rol als invaller meer en een basisplaats kunnen we niet bieden", aldus de beleidsbepaler.

De grillige Leonardo (26) gaf onlangs nog te kennen voor zijn kansen te willen gaan bij Ajax, omdat Martin Jol het stokje overnam van oud-trainer Marco van Basten. De oud-speler van Feyenoord en NAC Breda lijkt dus van gedachten veranderd.
