I'm Irish and I hope that we get England, South Korea and Senegal in our group. That would make me happy. I wouldn't mind playing China, Austrailia or Tunisia either though. Portugal in the last 8, I know they can't beat us so either Ireland would win or it'd go down to penalties.

Congratulations headbutt_habits Ireland definetly deserved it's spot in the 2002 WC no team had to face tougher competion anywhere in the world from Holland, and Portugal and one of Asia's best Iran.

Again congratulations.

Thank you very much............I can't wait for the draw now and it'll be more interesting with my home country...............oh it'd be really great to get England. Best of luck to all the teams and I hope it's an entertaining world cup.

It should be a a great event with so much talent lined up against one another. I really hope that the attacking style seen in Euro2000 by so many teams prevails. I hate boring matches where a 1-0 scoreline means super heavy defense and games of possession instead of the quest for the almighty goal.

And I wouldn't be so sure about Portugal not being able to beat Ireland...you know what they say, "third time's a charm"...? is, which team will be "charmed" ;)

Surely you jest:D

I think that our teams spent enough time together, hope we don't meet you til the later stages.

Anywho, good luck in the WC! Been following you cats for a while.
It's been a long time since you last made it to the WC...I actually saw an Ireland match when they played in New Jersey in 1994....but it's been an even longer time since we've made it.
Can't wait!!!

Were you there when Ireland beat Italy?
I reckon we can do it again too.
I think we can get drawn with Senegal, South Korea and China,
which would be nice, although we're notoriously bad against the weaker sides. After the groups I want, in order, England,
Italy, Argentina and France in the final, would make for an interesting atmosphere in the house, with the missus being French and all :D
Realistically, second round or quarter finals would be good enough.

I'm going to try and make it myself, although it means easing up on the drink:rolleyes:

Maybe I'll move to Iran 1st so I won't be tempted.:D

Yes,
The Ireland-Italy match was the one I attended. Great atmosphere for a "soccer" game in the US...probably on account of all the Italian & Irish immigrants & their families in the New York City area.

For some reason, my team never seems to be able to beat Italy...such is their style of play that we have problems with them. So it was nice to see an "underdog" beat Italy live.

My recollection of the game was that there was harldy any Italians at the match. It was a total paddy fest!! Actually while there a lots or Irish in New York most fans travelled to the States(from all over the world). Such was the number flying from Dublin that temp check in desks had to be dotted around the car park in Dublin Airport. Thats why the WC next year will be enriched by our large travelling Green Army.

One vivid memory I have about New York was the fire engines (not sure what you call them in the States) going up and down 7th Avenue with Irish Tricolours hanging off them and the firemen (fire fighters too you) singing and shouting for Ireland. Great days and a great city. Orlando was another story.
