The Coppa Italia has changed its format yet again. There will be a first phase consisting of 24 teams (this year's 22 Serie B teams plus Napoli and Genoa). There will be two one-leg, rounds in this first phase to produce six teams to enter the second phase. These six teams plus the 9-18 seeds (9th-17th placed in Serie A last season plus Serie B champion Juventus), will enter into the second phase, making 16 teams. There will be one round in the second phase consisting of just one leg. The eight winning teams will go into the third phase, or the tournament proper I guess you could say. There, the teams will be bracketed with the 1-8 seeds consisting of the defending champions plus the rest of last year's Serie A (the European participants). The third phase will consist of a Round of 16, quarterfinals, and semifinals all played in the normal Coppa style, with two legs for each round based on a bracket. This time though, the final will be a one-off game at a venue yet to be determined. No Serie C teams will participate.
So, concerning Torino, as 17th seed we will enter the second phase and need to beat whoever we are drawn against to get to the third phase. We will find out our opponents after the first phase is over, it starts on August 15 and the second game is on August 18. I believe we would play on August 29.
