Delvecchio spins after a goal (Allsport)
10/31/2001. Football legend Michel Platini expressed words of praise for Roma striker Marco Delvecchio during yesterday’s ‘Canal +’ TV commentary of the Champions League clash between the Italian champs and Anderlecht.

“I’ve always liked him as a player. If Italy lost the EURO 2000 final it was because Zoff replaced him when three minutes were left to be played. That turned out to be a great mistake, because it was Delvecchio’s pressing on Desailly, that put the entire French defense in apprehension,” said Platini.

With Italy up by a goal, Zoff took Delvecchio out to put Vincenzo Montella on, and three minutes later Italy ended up suffering Wiltord’s last gasp equalizer. France went on to win the final thanks to a David Trezeguet golden goal.

no man, I think he only meant it in that particular match.

But do remember former players would say anything to get attention, Platini is like Pele full of sh!t :D

Delvecchio is definitley better then what most people think of him, but his problem is that he dont score as much as Montella and Bati, and therefore people quickly tends to forget about the hard work he does on the field for the team, he scarifices himself for the team alot more then Bati and Montella.

Delvicchio is a work horse, that's more than you can say about Montella. As soon as Montella is put out of his oroginal position he cries for attention and sympathy. Delvecchio on the other hand works his ass off and earns his position on the field. I like The Old Man and hopes he continues working his ass off for us.
Even though they are completely different players - I like players for thier attitude and dedication to our team, not their star qualtity...
