Nesta vs Cannavaro

BTW had this topic been discussed yet???
I was wondering who's the better of the 2
2 of them are the greatest defender in the world

Age wise Nesta is had the edge...but Cannavaro is also a solid defender
I think Cannavaro is a better man marker whereas Nesta is the best sweeper

So who's better in your opinion???

I agree with Utopia. In Parma forums, Canna would win.

As I'm a Laziale and Nesta's fan, ppl won't take my opinion and judgement as an objective one.
So, let me introduce the comments by the two giants in Italian Calcio.

Baresi talked a lot about Azzurri in an interview.in a magazine published this spring.

Q: Is there a player who can be the heir to you in Azzurri?

I've always said for more than 2 years, Nesta is excellent in technique and he has all the qualities needed for a defender, of course including physical merits.
He'll be more than "the 2nd Baresi". He even has the possibility of reaching far higher level than mine.

Like Baresi said, so far he has often said the same on "the hair to Baresi" subject, always mentioning Nesta.

Maldini said he hoped in his son, but in the meantime, he chose Nesta.

By many players, from great ones to young promissing ones, Nesta is often mentioned as the best defender or the world-best.
I believe, players can judge it the best. Especially great and mature ones can judge it by far the best.

And remember, Nesta is always a nominee in the "best Italian" and the winner of "best DF" in Oscar del Calcio, voted by Serie A players.

I'm a parma fan and all, but I would also say that Nesta probably is the best defender in the world. Although they isn't exactly the same type of defender. But they are quite perfect togheter.

But I wouldn't want to trade Canna for Nesta, more than any Lazio fans would want.

I don't know who's the best (pretty equal to me)
But I can say that their partnership in NT is the best of the world !!

Yes, this is sort of an old topic... but I'm gonna asnwer it anyway.

Apart from being a Lazio supporter, I still think that Nesta is better than Canna. Yes, Canna himself is a very good defender, he's calm, focused, and despite of the size of his body (he's rather small for a defender, I think), he still could be a good challenger for the ball.

Nesta has all the qualities that Canna has - and his posture is perfect for a defender, so I guess that's a plus point. Nesta also have the leadership skill that Canna (perhaps) doesn't have, and don't forget the age thing

Canna is more physical and I don´t really want to pit them against each other since they are not at all similar.

I think that the player most like Nesta in italy right now is probably Materazzi.

Nesta has great leadership skills, something that Canna misses but Canna will take down his opponent at whatever cost.

Nesta is clearly the more technical of the both but that´s not the most important thing when you are a defender.

Nesta wins hands down but they are not a good pair to compare.

I agree with Svennis in that they are not a good pair to be compared with each other.

Each has a different role and different merits.
But IMO, the biggest difference that makes each get a different role and even level as a player is the VIEW(I don't know exactly how to put it into technical term, though). Svennis doesn't count this?
Nesta has a broad and keen view that I don't find much in Canna. The intelligence of reading the game belongs to the view. Leadership has something to do with this, too. But Nesta's view means more. It's said, even Baresi didn't have as much of this as Nesta.
The well-balanced combination of high-leveled technique, physical merits, intelligence and view makes Nesta distinguished.

Besides, though another factor might not be interesting or important for some ppl, for me and some fans Nesta's playstyle that is very often said to be graceful is something.

"Defending is not pretty but Nesta's is somewhat poetic. Sharp, slick, smooth, nothing less than pure class personified."

"He's distinguished both as a soldier and scholar".

I think Canna is an excellent soldier, though.

Typical rumours. Real thinks every player can be bought. But Nesta definitely not.

Canna and Nesta are different though they complement one another. So imo in NT there's no Nesta without Canna and vice versa. These two and Maldini make up the best defence in the world. Even better than French.
Furthermore what's typical of Nesta that he always gives his best to defend the ball, even if he can have an injury.
