I never know what to do - do I brush my teeth in the morning or does it break my fast? No-one ever seems to be able to give me a clear answer so I thought I'd add more confusion to my life and ask you guys :)

What is miswak?

I can't imagine it not being allowed to brush our teeth. I've always done it, and it would be horrible if we couldn't.
miswak is the arabic toothbrush. the one made from a tree branch.

nice to see so many muslim people around (especially in England):excited:

today was my first day at work while fasting, and i was stuck there till 6.15 so i had to eat a ready made meal from M&S :undecide: , i hope tomorrow i can leave earlier
about brushing your teeth, i always follow a rule in these situations, i choose the option which seems logical and rational, i dont believe that brushing your teeth adds any nutritional value, just as rinsing your mouth durin tawado2 (cleaning for prayer) dosesnt quench your thirst

well i've never brushed my teeth, only when i've closed my fast. like fizzi said a miswak is a good solution, because i definetly know it is allowed, so it's a good alternative.

regarding tooth paste, there is no clarity, but from the way i see it, the sweetness can be felt and is indused in them outh, so it is a form of consumption, so i don't go with it. but it is really a grey area.

What's the point of not brushing your teeth during fasting hours? So you don't ingest any toothpaste that might be left behind?

Anyway, good luck. I know I couldn't go long without eating something, as I tend to become very unpleasant otherwise. :D

You can brush your teeth, toothpaste is not meant for consumption and as long as you don't consciously ingest it, you should be fine.

Ramadan Kareem. :)

It's all about intentions in the end. It's about keeping things in the spirit of Ramadan.

I brush my teeth.

BTW I know people who are so extreme that they don't use scented soaps (ie most soaps you find in the shops).

I don't wear perfume whilst fasting but that also has a health reason as the smell gives me a headache on an empty stomach.

As for my first day working, I was fine until I hit 3 pm then I suddenly felt really nauseous, got a headache and kept breaking out in little hot flushes.

Brushing your teeth is okay although I do it after S7our! This the 1st time since years I wake up for S7our since I have to spend a long day at work,so im filling up. Before I used to stay up till 3 or 4 am when im in lebanon where we go eat 'ka3ek' from the old feren and drink tea and stuff .

By the way, I think the miswak is the same like the toothbrush and toothpaste since miswak releases a syrup when rubbed on teeth, which should also not to be swallowed!

It's hard while driving. I tend to curse on impulse when wreckless drivers are about to crash into me or others, and such a slip-up can nullify my fast.

Just too difficult. I'm seriously considering taking the bus home, for Ramadan :pp

Plus instead of profanities, I'm trying to use, "Allah ysemhak" (my God forgive you) instead of "Yib3atlak..." or something worse

Oh, you're a smoker?

Do you get 3asaby [short-tempered/impatient] without smoking?
