yep, they are responsible for almost all thats bad about footie really

to think that half (at least) of any transfer $ ends up in their pockets, thus the absurd and imoral values involved in it, and that most quarrels between players and boards, players and other players, players and coaches etc is because of them :rollani:

That's it. They're effectively of no use as for getting themselves a fair share of the cake they didn't bake on. The players wouldn't have a worse life without them. Eusebio was advised by his family, predominantly his mother, and I bet he did better so. But all our complaints are of no use, we won't change that development. It has to be the players themselves who have to notice those parasites seeking blood in their shadows. :undecide:

Well looks like Manuel is on his way to Portsmouth,it is official.:moan:

Well at least Simao should now stay!

Disappointed that he is leavign but a good move for him also I dont think he would have started this season so although he is a class player I think both sides (Fernandes and Benfica) win.

When you say that you don't think he would have started this season what do you mean exactly? Do you think FS would not have him in his first XI??

Honestly I feel Benfica lost a lot of money in this transfer as Manuel Fernandes surely is worth much more than this. Besides he deserved a much better team than Portsmouth, with all due respect for them.

Well Portsmouth is a long term project. They have a huge amount of money now. Possibly even the second richest club in the world behind Chelsea, the new owner is absolutely loaded.

For a 20 year old I feel it's a good choice, by the time he's 23 Pompey should be in Europe and might even push for the EPL.

If money only would guarantee trophies then Chelsea would have won the last two UCL, the top Ukrainian teams and the likes of Dinamo Moscow would be roaring in Europe and so on...it sounds an interesting prospect for MF but I still think he deserved better than that.

Yeah, you are right!,and with the likes of Chelsea, man unt, arsenal and liverpool or even Newcastle and Tottenham, portsmouth will find hard to get to european cups.

To me honestly it's quite a surprising transfer, i really can't figure out why Benfica would get rid of a startlet like Fernandes at a young age like 20.

Hopefully Portsmouth's owner put's his money where his mouth is and revamps the whole team.

Either way if this deal goes through i'll be very exited to see this gem in the EPL...

I think the reason is fairly simple. 15M for a 20 year old player is a great sum of money. Manuel has a bright future, but it's not a certainty.

They entered the summer with a desire of getting a similar sum for selling Simao. Replacing a winger in his prime like Simao would prove FAR more diffucult than a up and coming (But still unpolished) midfielder. I have heard quotes in the past from LFV and Jose Viega where they pretty much said "We don't know how we would replace Simao".

To put a little perspective on how high this transfer fee is: Fiorentina paid 17M in 2000 for Nuno Gomes. Nuno appeared to be headed towards a great prime of his career based on his age (24) and his performance at Euro 2000. Fate intervened and Nuno did not blossom as expected. He remains a good forward, but not great.

at least he has a coach that knows football, Redknapp always seems to get a lot out of good footballers, if he does well he can always get a move to a bigger club later.
Redknapp really seems to want coach at Pompey. If this infusion of capital will allow them to compete with the big clubs, why would he leave?

I don't know how much money this Rooskie has, but he seems to have plenty. So money should be an issue for Harry. Acquiring up and coming players hasn't been a problem. The positions at Spurs, 'Pool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and ManU don't appear in any danger (I'd even throw in Newcastle and Everton for the near future).

Coaches can be a funny breed, but I don't see a major incentive to leave.

I think he was talking about Manuel Fernandes and not Harry Redknapp

as you can read in previous posts in this thread, Benfica will only get half of that money which means a bit more then 8M, which means very very little money for the value that Manuel already has

Well Manuel failed the medical test's so he will do it again in one month time.

So Simao should leave now.:moan:
