Not to mention Inter are in the Champions League next season and have won 2 trophies in the last two seasons. Also a historic big club playing in one of the worlds biggest stadiums.

Inter? :)

they waste their times signing out-of-form "names"

Cambiasso, Figo, Solari just a few. its basically a team of old bums trying to resurrect their careers somehow.

Marc Valiente - The Trick Up Rijkaard's Sleeve

The reason for Rijkaard not wanting to sign a centre-half, is apparently 19 year old Marc Valiente.

The youngster has come up through the ranks at Barcelona, and seems to have caught Rijkaard's eye.

The Barcelona coach seems to have seen enough in the teenager to line him up for a jump to the senior team, along the footsteps of Puyol and Oleguer.

At 184 cms., he is shorter than the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Sol Campbell, but a full 5-6 cms. taller than the Puyol and Cannavaro, which places him in the medium segment.

Besides, it seems like it's characteristics other than height - speed, good positioning and a calm temperament - that have shaped Rijkaard's confidence in him.

However, weighing only 71 kgs., he has been told to bulk up for the rigours of top flight football.

Rijkaard seems to have full faith in Marquez and Puyol ahead of next season, and with both Edmilson and Oleguer capable of filling in - albeit not at the same level - he is worried about another top centre-half possibly causing tension in the dressing room.

Barcelona have been linked with Thuram, though, as at 34, he might be happy with a bit-part role in the team.

02/07/2006 16:43 Saviola Excited By Arsenal Interest Javier Saviola is reportedly excited by Arsene Wenger's interest in bringing him to Ashburton Grove.

The Argentine forward returns to Barcelona after spending another year on loan, and this time a very successful one at Sevilla. He has another year to run on his deal.

Both he and Barcelona seem to agree that Arsenal have come up with the most attractive offer to date.

The Catalans, who do not have a place for him in their squad, had been looking for buyers in Spain, as the player wanted to continue in the Primera Liga.

However, the offer from the Londoners, along with the high level of interest, seems to have convinced him to contemplate a move outside of Spain. Arsène Wenger is reportedly very keen on 'The Rabbit', as he is called, and hopes to land him at a very reasonable price given the circumstances.

However, the Argentine forward has raised his quotation through displays with Argentina in the World Cup, and Barcelona are aware that other clubs are also keen. The list includes Tottenham and Bolton, and Arsenal will have to outbid them at the very least.

Among others who have made offers through intermediaries, are Zaragoza, Lyon and Panathinaikos, although his high wage demands are proving to be a stumbling block, as during previous seasons.

Under the circumstances, Arsenal have emerged as the best bet to meet Barcelona's asking price - which will still be chump change compared to the 35 million Euros they paid River Plate to sign him - and also Saviola's wage demands and sporting ambitions.

With Argentina's World Cup adventure having come to an end, a move could be close!

Figo always has good seasons.

Mr. Dependable.

Moe, most Serie A pundits would tell you that Cambiasso should be named in the Starting XI of the entire league for the last two seasons.

PS: Don't act so inconsiderate of other clubs. :)

hehe thisi s about facts not feelings :)

these players that inter recruit are always fall-outs from other clubs... the majority dont manage to resurrect their careers... rarely, they do..... i wouldn't say Figo has resurrected his.... look at hom, he is slow, old, and most of the times his best efforts look optimistic to silly :)

cambiasso i admit is a level higher but not where you need him to be to get you a scudetto

AS reports that Barca and Arsenal reached agreement on Saviola, which should be finalised next week. Fee is meagre 3,5 m euros. Nearly for free. It looks like we are doing humanitarian work already without the Unicef logo.

Ludovic Silvestre? Midfield player. A lot of heart supposedly but no proper end product. Needs grooming to be a good player.

He already has. :)
Apparently not. Actually, according to Legia's coach Wdowczyk, they won't be signing him at all.

Legia wanted him to play in a friendly against Celtic, but Barcelona refused to agree to that unless he signs a contract with the Polish club.

He only attended one training with the Warsaw club however and they said it's not enough to make a decision of wether sign a player or not.

I also believe the price was too high and we'll rather see Riera staying with Barça or moving to another Spanish club.

Andor,
from what I've seen he's a two-way midfielder with a decent pass and shot and is moderate at reading the game. Not much of a tackler or physical player though, he seems to be slow and not have that much stamina although he has determination. Has a long way to go.

Judging from Italian transfer culture, I think Buffon might play in Milan or even Inter next season.
