Thierry Henry has hailed the "electric" form of Jose Antonio Reyes in Arsenal’s two post-Christmas games.

The 22-year-old Spanish striker scored against Charlton on Boxing Day and Portsmouth on Wednesday. On both occasions he was set up by his French colleague.

"At the moment Jose is playing just the way we want him to play," said Henry.

"The thing I am happy about is that he is getting into the box. The goal he scored at Charlton came because he followed in. If you are not there to score then it will be not a goal. Against Portsmouth once again he followed me in. Then I just looked at him and played the ball back.

"I have said it so many times once he plays the way he plays — one, two, really quick — then no one can stop him.

"I don’t think you have seen the best of him. I know what he can do, he knows what he can do. Sometimes it is difficult to bring out on the pitch all that you can do but he is a tremendous player.

"As long as he can produce that electric game when he is always on the move then he is a really, really difficult player to stop."

you know the drill - couple of decent games, now watch him go back into his shell for the next 3 months
I am more positive nowand i have been his biggest critic , he has shown his best stuff in the freezing temperatures this time, maybe now he is becoming a man and won't be affected by confidence issues and lack of belief anymore.

Thierry Henry admits he would prefer to see Patrick Vieira playing for Arsenal rather than watching from the stands - but insists his side have now turned the corner after back-to-back wins over Christmas.

Former Gunners skipper Vieira, who left the club for Italian side Juventus in the summer, was at Highbury on Wednesday to watch the 4-0 defeat of Portsmouth when Henry scored twice.

It has been suggested Vieira's departure has played a part in Arsenal's poor start to the season, although Henry is optimistic after thrashing Pompey and beating Charlton at the weekend.

"It was nice to see him," Henry said of Vieira. "I would rather have seen him out there on the pitch but he is at Juventus now and doing really well."

Cesc Fabregas and Mathieu Flamini have been given the chance to shine in Vieira's absence, while Arsene Wenger's youngsters scraped through to the last four of the Carling Cup after a penalty shoot-out against League One side Doncaster.

Henry added: "We are bringing through some outstanding youngsters and the character they showed to get us through to the Carling Cup semi-finals at Doncaster gave us a real lift for the Christmas matches and I think we took that into the matches against Charlton and Portsmouth."

Wenger's men are 20 points behind leaders Chelsea, who won at Highbury earlier this month, but the Gunners boss also believes his team are finding their way after struggling following the loss of Vieira.

"I feel the team has improved now and realised they can still do well," said the Arsenal boss, whose side face Aston Villa on Saturday.

"We lost some belief for a while and it is only now the team realises we should not have lost that game to Chelsea a few weeks ago.

"Now, however, I think we have put that right and feel we can chase the pack in front of us. All the signs are positive.

"Manchester United coming here next Tuesday is always a big game but it will be even bigger if we can do well at Villa. There will still be 20 games left after that and so it is not all over whatever happens."

Henry believes injuries to key players affected Arsenal's early-season form, adding: "I was missing at the beginning and I think that was important, but so was Sol Campbell, Ashley Cole, Gael Clichy and Alexander Hleb.

"Then we lost games and things didn't go our way. That is how it is sometimes and you have to dig in and show your character.

"It takes time for it to come back but I think it has come back. So let's see what we can do at Aston Villa on Saturday. I have said many times I feel we have made things difficult for ourselves and we just needed to get back to one-and-two-touch football to be more fluid.

"At Charlton we showed that at times. We put some quick moves together and when we do that we make things easier for ourselves. We showed that when we move the ball quickly we can be really dangerous and that is how it was against Portsmouth as well."

Henry ended a five-game goal drought by netting twice against Pompey, although Wenger was still pleased with the level of performance from his striker.

"He has done well but gone through a period all strikers go through," Wenger said. "He hit a post against Chelsea, was denied by some great saves from Shay Given against Newcastle and hit the bar against Charlton."

Meanwhile, Robert Pires, 32, could break a Highbury tradition and earn a new two-year deal when he opens discussions on a new contract next month. Arsenal usually offer just one year at a time to players over 30.

Gilberto has a groin injury and is likely to miss the Villa Park clash at the weekend, but Robin van Persie could return from a thigh problem. Cole is back in training after a foot injury.

blimey Henry is being so positive :eekani:

It's good to see Henry cheering Reyes. He starts being like captain. :)

For Reyes, it's good to see that he finally fits into the role that was used to be run by Pires as a fast midfielder who strikes right into the box.

Anyway, hilarious post from Rob. :D
