And speaking of I this whole forum has been a bit dead in the past week...
I agree. I think we need a few more regulars around here. But it is a lot more lively than it was a few months ago.

I don´t think the Monaco match was so bad, but Slavia´s defense just left themselves open too much. Looking forward to the next match though.

I heard a joke today (at midday, now it's not funny anymore).

2 friends meet and one tells the other: "I bought a dog and living with him really is funny. He usually watches sport with me. He likes especially ski-jumping and also football because he's a die-hard Sparta fan. He is always cheering for his team during the matches on TV and gets very angry when Sparta doesn't win. He howls and does poo-poo in the living-room then." The other responds: "I also want such a dog! Hey and what does he do when Sparta wins?" "I don't know, he's been with me for only 9 months..."

:D:D:D:howler:

I think the person definitely jinxed it though.

Ha! Marco, that was a good one, and, until yesterday, all too true!

I know it was only against Most, but they played pretty well yesterday. It was the type of match I expected them to lose, so I was pleased with the result.
Zelenka at times looked good, especially early on, and I was impressed with Jeslinek, even though he looks like he is ten years old. And Kadlec continues to impress me.
On the other hand, Pospech was even more horrible as a right back than he is as right wing, and don´t even get me started on the center defenders (though to be fair, Petrous was not as awful as he usually is).
Now on to Hasek. He is something like 35 I believe, and I would think that after playing football for so long he would realize that taking shots 50m from the goal is not very productive. He is terrible in front of the box, always making the wrong decisions (usually taking terrible shots), and in general destroying any chances Sparta have to score. He is a defensive midfielder, not Pele, and for some reason he is confused about this. Ach jo!
I really look forward to about half the team leaving during the break, including Pospech, Petras, Petrous, Slepicka..actually, it may be shorter to list who I would like to stay.

It's the same joke about derby AC Milan - Inter with little changes

I'm impressed with Sparta's appearence against Most, but it's weakest team of the league and against Pribam Sparta was lucky - penalty in 90th min gave them draw.

Ok, I´ve seen only something about three times for 5 minutes but always when I turned that channel on I´ve seen Most having two good chances...Did Sparta really played so well then? Or the result is the only positive thing...

I think Sparta really did play well. Most did have some chances, but Sparta played much better than they. Of course, some players were awful, most notably Pospech, but Polacek was terrific, and Matusovic came on as a sub and energized the team. Zelenka had some brilliant moments as well, so what more could you want?

So what is Sparta doing over the winter break? I know they signed some unknown Slovakian guys. One of them was a cast off from Dinamo Moskva. Is he at least better than Petras?? I can't believe they made Petras a captain, he needs to be sold.

Looks like there has been some talk about getting Jun, Hubschmann, Sverkos, etc.. but of course nothing will come out. Jun is going on loan to Wolfsborg, I don' think he scored a single goal in Turkey. At least their manager Cretinsky has the most appropriate name for the job he's done with Sparta:) 0-9-3 in CL over the last 2 years. Damn shame

Even if the Slovak guy from Moskva had one leg he would be better than Petras. I don´t understand why they made him captain either, maybe he had already bought the arm band.
I don´t expect any of the so-called big names to make to Sparta either, but Marco promises me at least one of them will, and Marco doesn´t lie! :)

As long as there is no demand or competition from abroad for these players, Sparta might get them. As soon as some potential buyer emerges Sparta backs off. Looks like some Russian team has expressed interest in Zabavnik (Slovak defender playing in Bulgaria), so my bet is that he wont be coming to Sparta. This summer there was a talk about host of players coming to Sparta (Skacel, Nemeth from Boro, Heinz), and look who they got: some unproven strikers like Slepicka, Dosek.

I don't know how they expect to be successful in Europe without making much investment in the club. Buying second and third tier talent just won't do. Without Poborsky this team is nothing.

Hanek is quite decent. He played good in Dinamo Moscow and he has international caps.
I wonder how he will catch on. I belive he is better than Petras.

As for Zabavnik...there is interest from better clubs including suchlikes as Feyenoord so I don't think he will end up in Sparta ;)
Szilly Nemeth is most likely to move to Olypmique Marseilles, he has been closely watched and I heard the french want to bring him home this winter...

We'll have to see

This is still a question mark, but I would think no. Or at least not until the last few matches, and by that time his presence really won´t make any difference.
According to the official Sparta website, Sivok says he is progressing very well, but doesn´t want to come back until he is perfectly healthy. He definately wants to avoid another knee injury.

Looks like Sparta signed Zabavnik till 2008, so those rumours came true. I've seen him play maybe 3 times. I liked his game against Leverkusen but not so much against Monaco, where he was too slow. At least they got something. Hubschmann would have been the best option, ever since he left, defence has been in shambles.

Zabavnik is not the last one...or big dreams of Sparta

Did you know....? Lothar Mathaeus is not the last big name that Sparta tried to get in their squad. The german veteran didn´t accept the offer that time and soon ended his player career. This winter Sparta wanted to sign Henrik Larsson, it was confirmed by the club. But Henrik wanted desperately home to play for a swedish club so he refused. What a surprise  But as it seems the spartan board does really want some (former) big name in the club after Poborsky left - as rumours say, they are now after Fredi Bobic, who considers the end of career. Actually I think, there´s no real choice... in Sparta his end will come sooner or later, too... Anyway, it seems to be another ´Mathaeus story´.

There was no chance Larsson was going to sign with Sparta so this move is just a window dressing to appease Sparta fans. Bobic is 34 and is planning to retire. I don't see how this will help Sparta, it might just help in a very short term as they have really poor strikers at the moment.

Funny, I don´t feel appeased.
And really, I don´t think we need any 34-year-old strikers. :eekani:
I do like the defensive signings though, at least I hope I do! :hopefull:

There, I think that´s enough emoticons for the year. :)

Defense should be better, at least on paper, and maybe Repka will join too. Hopefully he's wiser this time and uses his brain more. One big hole is in the midfield after Poborsky departure and Zelenka going to Turkey. Who's going to be a playmaker?
As far as a striker is concerned, they might as well get a 44 year old striker as long as he can score:)
