On the other hand I thought Giuly had a good game against Udinese, so that's actually a real incentive to let him start in this one.

I don't see Messi's ineffectiveness being because of a lack of execution on his part. It was a mix of strong defense by Sevilla who always marked him and the rest of the front line with one man backed by a second defender. Add to that the fact that the midfield did such a bad job of circulating posession that there was no occasion that he picked up the ball in a real dangerous zone. I agree he should have been better but there are root causes for this performance. Don't think he wasn't motivated.

I Love the kid. but lets be real, he is playing for BARCA :strong: he must learn that he is young and its GIFT to play with us at this age.

Messi should start, no doubt. Giuly has played lots of bad games and still started the games after. Messi should play, and he'll show why on saturday!

Messi was not as bad as Eto in my opinion. Actually Eto was as bad as everybody else except Olegure and Ronnie in the second goal. He scored a goal half meter from the net and he had to hit it twice! Only Ronaldinho who showed a flash of brilliance in the second goal.

I'm not criticising Messi. I just said I liked what Giuly showed against Udinese last week. So if he's in a good form right now, why shouldn't he get a chance? Let Messi rest one game and put him back among the starters against Celta, why not?
I'm not a Giuly fan and I actually like both of them so it's not so important for me who starts, just shared my opinion.

Well if you're basing who should start on performances, then Messi should probably start over Giuly for the rest of the season. Giuly is nowhere near as good as Messi and I still don't get why everybody in this forum creams their pants over Giuly all the team. He provides work rate and that's about it. I don't care how many goals he scores either. He's not some prolific scorer who creates his own chances. Half of you lot could score the goals he does if you got the service. He's also about creative as Zyad with his etch a sketch. Why we ever bought in the first place is beyond me.

You know I have a better idea. Why don't we just sell Messi and sign Giuly to a 10 year contract.

Messi is still the no 1 choice on the right side of attack. He's subbed around minute 70 in almost every match anyway, not to make it too much on him. Giuly didn't do anything to be excited about against Udinese. If someone else should start instead of Messi it has to be Larsson since he's always doing good things when coming on. Besides, Cadiz will probably come out defending, so there will hardly be space for Giuly to run into, and that's about all he's done for us in terms of attack.

Subs;
Larsson for Messi (around 70-80)

This is what I want to see. :)

I had to laugh when I saw this. Eto'o didn't play so well against Sevilla, let's bench him too. :thumbsup:

When you have a player of Messi's calibre, his talent needs to be nurtured by playing, you can't leave him on the bench, Giuly's "talent" (I use this world loosely here) has pretty much developed the furthest he can.

His talent also needs to be nurtured by being protected. I don't want to see him playing every single game if we can help it. Putting him on the bench for Cadiz, if that is what happens, isn't going to be the career destroying move some of you seem to think. Personally, if we can beat Cadiz without playing him at all, I would. Someone his age and size should NOT be considered a regular starter in this league. He will get enough games to continue to develop, but there's no reason to overload him, given that he already has to deal with "new Maradona" type nonsense every single day.

Please tell me one thing, how did you feel when we benched Rhonaldinho against Betis and have you seen how was his reaction against Udine in the next match

I LOVE MESSI :cool: .... but what i saw in the las TWO matches, i saw him giving 90% effort, while i am used to see 110% of him. :thumbsup:

it's physically impossible to give 110% all the time, well its actually impossible to give <=100% but let's not go there

But Eto'o didn't either. He was static against Villarreal and the goal saved his performance against a very defensive Sevilla. Should we play Larsson instead of him?

Better than Eto'o ? Nope not really.

He deserves a run out though, and he will get that when Eto'o goes away for the Cup of Nations.
