China, Iran, Korea Rep post big wins: AFC U-17 C'ship qualifiers

KUALA LUMPUR: Defending AFC U-17 champions China ensured a robust start to their 2006 qualifying campaign with an 11-0 thrashing of Mongolia in Wiefang at the Shadong Luneng Stadium on Sunday.

China play their second group M East Zone match against the Chinese Taipei on November 17.

Korea Republic ran 14 unanswered goals past Macau in Group L.

In the South and Central Asian zone, India took apart archrivals Pakistan 9-0 in New Delhi in a Group G game while Iran destroyed Turkmenistan 5-0 at the Inquilab Stadium in Karaj in their Group H double header. Uzbekistan beat Kyrgyzstan 2-0 in Group F.

In the Asean zone, Thailand made shortwork of the Maldives 10-0 in Group J while Malaysia lost by a solitary goal to Vietnam at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium in Kuala Lumpur in Group K.

In West Asia, Oman thrashed Lebanon 5-1 in Group C while the Group A match between Iraq and Palestine was postponed till further notice. Qatar, who took part in the recent FIFA U-17 World Championship, were shocked by Yemen 2-0 in Group B at the Al Arabi Stadium in Doha while Kuwait were held to a goalless draw by Syria.

Yemen first to qualify for AFC U-17 Championship

KUALA LUMPUR: Yemen edged Bahrain 4-3 for their second win in Group B match to become the first team to qualify for the AFC U-17 Championship in Singapore next year. The Yemenis had beaten Qatar 2-0 two days back.

Saudi Arabia inflicted a 4-1 defeat on Lebanon in Muscat in Group C and now need a win against hosts Oman on Thursday to qualify for the finals. Oman had defeated Lebanon 5-1 in the first match. Kuwait will need to beat the UAE by a margin of 3-0 in the last Group D match on Thursday after Syria defeated the latter 2-0 in the second game at Aleppo. Kuwait and Syria had played out a goalless draw in the first game.

In Group F, Nepal edged Kyrgyzstan 2-1 which has left the third team in the group, Uzbekistan, looking for a draw against Nepal when they meet in Kathmandu on Thursday. Tajikistan squeezed past Pakistan 1-0 in Group G and have to win against India on Thursday here in New Delhi to enter the finals. India beat Pakistan 9-0 in the first game.

In Group H, Iran are in a healthy position to clinch qualification after their 5-0 win in the first match against Turkmenistan. The return leg takes place on Thursday in Ashgabat in the group which has only two teams.

Myanmar annihilated Maldives 12-0 in a Group J match at the Supachasalai Stadium in Bangkok on Tuesday and now need a draw against Thailand to make sure of their place in the finals. Thailand had defeated Maldives 10-0 in the first match.

Japan ran 26 unanswered goals past Macau and now require a draw against the Korea Republic to make the finals from Group L. Korea Republic had earlier thrashed Macau 14-0.

Chinese Taipei edged Mongolia 2-1 in Group M at the Shandong Luneng Stadium in Wiefang and are in a must-win situation against China on Thursday. China defeated Mongolia 11-0 in the opener.

DPR Korea posted an easy 17-2 win over Guam in Group N at the Yanggakdo Stadium in Pyongyang on Monday

Japan, China, Nepal and Tajikistan qualify for AFC U-17 Championship

KUALA LUMPUR: Continental powerhouses Japan and current defending champions China qualified for the AFC U-17 Championship on a busy match-day Thursday which also saw Nepal and Tajikistan spring a surprise by defeating stronger teams and making the grade.

The 14 group winners automatically qualify and play in the Championship in Singapore next year. Another spot will be available from a playoff between an ASEAN and East Asian team though the identity of the teams is not decided yet.


EAST

In Group L, Japan needed a draw against the Korea Republic and got it 1-1 in Paju while China, also in need of a simple draw from Group M, thrashed the Chinese Taipei 9-0 to make their qualification doubly sure. In Group N, DPR Korea have to draw with Hong Kong on Friday to advance after the latter held Guam to a 2-2 draw on Thursday. DPR Korea had demolished Guam 17-2 in the first match.


SOUTH AND CENTRAL

India’s requirement was a draw but Tajikistan had other plans in mind as they played out of their skin in New Delhi for a 3-2 win. Pakistan the other team in Group G were already out of the running after two defeats. Nepal inflicted a confident 2-0 defeat on Uzbekistan to make their way to the Championship as the surprise package from Group F which also had Kyrgyzstan.

Iran had one leg in the finals after a 5-0 first leg win in their double-header against Turkmenistan and carried out a 5-2 demolition in the second leg in Ashgabat on Thursday.

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will go head-to-head on November 21 and 25 from this zone in Group E.


ASEAN

Myanmar played cautiously and got the draw, 1-1, they wanted against Thailand in Bangkok to qualify from Group J while Vietnam edged Malaysia 1-0 in Group K to advance to the Championship proper. Group I, which comprises Australia, Indonesia and Laos, will play later though the dates have not yet been decided.


WEST

Saudi Arabia progressed after dashing Oman’s hopes of qualification after a rampant 4-0 defeat in Muscat in Group C while the UAE did Syria a favour by beating Kuwait 2-0 who needed to win by a margin of more than three goals.

Yemen have already qualified from Group B which had Bahrain and Qatar too. Meanwhile, the Group A matches of Iraq, Jordan and Palestine have been put off till further notice.



QUALIFIERS TILL DATE

Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Syria (all West), Nepal, Tajikistan, Iran, (all South and Central), Myanmar, Vietnam hosts Singapore (all ASEAN), Japan, China (East).

I Don't think Iraq have a achance to qulifiy, we have alot of problems both for Yputh and u-17.

DPR Korea qualify, Bangladesh take lead in Group E: AFC U-17 Championship

KUALA LUMPUR: DPR Korea qualified for the AFC U-17 Championship after defeating Hong Kong 4-0 in the last Group N game from the East Zone recently. DPR Korea had earlier defeated Guam 17-2 while the match between Guam and Hong Kong had ended 2-2.

In the Central and South Asian zone’s Group E match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the former won 3-0. The return leg takes place on Friday.

Meanwhile, the new dates for West zone’s Group A matches have been announced. Iraq will play Palestine on December 13, Palestine will clash with Jordan on December 15 and Jordan will take on Iraq on December 17.

Kyrgyzstan take slim lead against Nepal: AFC Youth Championship qualifiers

KATHMANDU: Kyrgyzstan overcame Nepal 1-0 in the first leg of their

Group F AFC Youth Championship qualifiers at the Dashrath Stadium here.

Emil Kenjisariev skirted three Nepalese defenders to score the

match-winner for the Central Asians in the first half. Nepal's Sangeet Rajak and Anil Gurung wasted two goalscoring chances.

Nepal's coach Shyam Thapa said: "We have talented players and I am sure we can beat them by a two-goal margin in Bishkek."

His Kyrgyz counterpart Valiev Zagid was happy with the result. "We

maintained the pressure throughout the game and won."

The two teams will meet again in the second leg in Bishkek on November 28.

Big guns on track in AFC Youth Championship qualifiers

KUALA LUMPUR: The big guns were on track in the first round of the AFC Youth Championship qualifiers on Wednesday with China, Japan and Korea Republic notching big wins over unfancied rivals.

In the East zone’s Group L opening match, China ran 17 unanswered goals past hapless Guam in Macau while in Group M defending champions Korea Republic drubbed Mongolia 13-0 in Paju. In Group N, Japan thrashed Chinese Taipei 5-0 in Kumamoto.

Guam next play Macau on the second match day on November 25 while Mongolia take on Hong Kong and Japan play DPR Korea.

In the West, Iraq drubbed Lebanon 2-0 in Group A in Kuwait City while Saudi Arabia were too strong for Syria and notched up a 3-1 victory in their Group B match in Dammam. In Group C, Yemen thrashed Palestine 3-0. The Group D matches of Bahrain, Jordan and Qatar have been postponed till further notice.

In the South and Central zone’s Group E opener, Uzbekistan had it easy against Pakistan 3-0 in Dushanbe while Kyrgyzstan took a slim 1-0 lead in the first leg of their doubleheader against Nepal in Kathmandu. The games of Group G comprising Australia, Sri Lanka and Turkmenistan will be played next year though the dates have not been finalised yet. In Group H, Iran annihilated Bangladesh 5-0.

In the ASEAN zone, Thailand defeated Singapore 2-0 in Group J and Laos edged Maldives by a solitary goal in Group K. The Group I matches in this zone, a two-legged affair between Malaysia and Myanmar, will be played on December 12.

Saudi are first to qualify for AFC Youth Championship

KUALA LUMPUR: Saudi Arabia became the first team to qualify for next year’s AFC Youth Championship in India after a 4-2 win over Oman in the qualifiers on Friday.


WEST

Saudi had earlier defeated Syria 3-1 in the first Group B match. Oman and Syria clash in the last inconsequential group game in Dammam on Sunday.

In Group A, Kuwait destroyed Lebanon 4-1 which left them within touching distance of qualification. They now need a draw against Iraq in the last game in Kuwait City on Sunday.

The UAE also need to hold Yemen to advance from Group C to the championship proper after defeating Palestine 6-0 in Dubai in the second game.


SOUTH AND CENTRAL

Tajikistan ran eight unanswered goals past Pakistan in Group E and

need a draw against fellow Central Asians Uzbekistan in Dushanbe on Sunday to qualify. Uzbekistan defeated Pakistan in the opener 3-0.


EAST

Macau defeated Guam 2-0 in Group L and are up against mighty China in the last game on Sunday. The Chinese need a simple draw to advance.

A single point will be enough to help the Korea Republic advance when they meet Hong Kong in the last game on Sunday. Hong Kong edged Mongolia 4-3 on Friday in Paju and will be required to beat the Koreans by a huge margin after the latter’s 12-0 win against Mongolia.

The last match in Group N between DPR Korea and Japan is poised on a knife’s edge after the former defeated Chinese Taipei 5-0 at Kumamoto on Friday. Earlier, Japan had defeated Chinese Taipei by the same scoreline.


AFC U-17 CHAMPIONSHIP

Bangladesh qualified from Group E of the South and Central zone for the tournament proper despite losing by a solitary goal to Sri Lanka in the return leg in Colombo on Friday. Bangladesh had won the first leg 3-0.

Iraq shock Kuwait to advance: AFC Youth Championship qualifiers

KUALA LUMPUR: Iraq sprung a surprise by defeating Kuwait 1-0 in Kuwait City to advance to the AFC Youth Championship, which will be held in India next year.

Kuwait needed a draw in this Group A game of West Zone but failed to keep their determined rivals at bay in Kuwait City.


WEST

UAE defeated Yemen 2-0 in Group C to advance to the tournament proper.


CENTRAL AND SOUTH

Tajikistan eked out a goalless draw against fellow Central Asians Uzbekistan to book their place in the championship in Group E while Iran, who had taken a 5-0 lead in the first leg against Bangladesh, won the second leg 2-0 in Dhaka to advance from Group H.


ASEAN

Thailand defeated Indonesia 3-1 to top Group J.


EAST


China drubbed Macau 9-1 to top group L and advance while Korea Republic, who needed a draw against Hong Kong, handed out a 2-0 thrashing instead to book their berth from Group M. Japan edged DPR Korea by a solitary goal in Group N.

DPR Korea still have a chance to make the cut if they win a playoff against the best runner-up of ASEAN.

Kyrgyzstan defeat Nepal in AFC Youth Championship

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan: Kyrgyzstan defeated Nepal 2-0 in the AFC Youth Championship qualifiers on Monday to advance to the tournament proper, which will be played in India next year.

Kyrgyzstan won the first leg by a solitary goal and in the second leg Sidorenko Pavel drew first blood for the Kyrgyz in the 10th minute, capitalising on a defensive blunder. In the second half, Anurov Ildar doubled the tally through his excellent header.

Malaysia take lead against Myanmar: AFC Youth Championship

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia defeated Myanmar 4-2 in the first leg of the AFC Youth Championship qualifiers here on Monday.

The goals for Malaysia were scored by Farderin Kadir (14th minute), Khyril Muhymeen Zamri (20th minute) and Mohd Zaquan Adha Abdul Razak (36th minute and 52nd minute). Myanmar pulled two back through Min Tun Min in the 26th minute and Si Thu Than in the 79th minute.

The return leg of this ASEAN Group I double-header will be played in Yangoon on Friday.

The championship proper will be held in India next year.

Jordan one win away from qualifying for AFC U-17 Championship

QUASMA, Jordan: Jordan need a win against Iraq on Saturday to qualify for the AFC U-17 Championship after defeating Palestine 2-0 in the second group 1 game on Thursday.

Both the goals were scored for Jordan by Yazid Qadoora. He opened the tally in the 28th minute and added to the scoreline nine minutes from time.

Iraq beat Palestine 3-0 in the first group match earlier.
