Now that Edmilson will go back to the team, Rijkaard has a problem. At the begining of the season, Edmilson was the DM and Marquez the CD. The truth is that I never liked much Marquez in the CD, he's too slow, from my point of view.

In his first season, he did so bad, that finally Oleguer got the place in the first XI. This year, whenever I saw Marquez in the CD (against Real Sociedad, for example), I saw the team unsafe in defense. On the other hand, Rafa Márquez was a "kaiser" in the DM and when he missed a match, the team suffered a lot, losing its ballance.

Which option do you prefer? Marquez in the DM or in the CD.

On paper i really really want Marquez at CB i think hes a better player than Edmilson, and next season will shine next to Puyol, *im praying at least* Edmilson is too clumsy yet Rafa is fairly slow, both negative points, but i think Edmilson should be left to battle it out wit Motta for DM

Marquez as a DM has been overrated. He's not bad by any means, but that position in our formation has often times been a filler position where regardless of who plays there they tend to take up space more than anything. I'd have to say we should keep Marquez there though to start the season simply because I don't that either Edmilson or Motta are better there. It's a tough call though because I don't think any of the players are easy choices when compared to the others.

Marquez isn't slower than Oleguer. He formed a great partnership with Puyol in the beginning, both are great leaders and Marquez complements Puyol perfectly as he is a lot better in the aerial game.

DM is for the star of the cantera next season; Motta. I really think that this guy will be instrumental for us next season, if he stays fit.

So Kaiser for CB ;)

Well I for one certainly hope so. He's showed glimpses in the past, but he's never been consistent. He's got a lot of potential. If he gets hurt again though, then I've had it. His fitness was called into question by Txiki in the documentary and it doesn't seem as though the player is holding up his end of the bargain at times. Here's to hoping he shows up.

Yeah, I hope he can show us that we made the right decision in not selling him to Milan. The knee-injury can happen to anyone, it was bad luck. Motta is a warrior. Last season was supposed to be his but he's been great in most, if not all the games I've seen him at DM (friendly's included).

hrmm, as sad as it sounds, i think edmilson should be used as a back up CB unless he can prove something. The thing that worries me about our team is the lack of fighting grit. Marquez and Motta in CB and DM respectively can bring that. Hopefully without being sent off.

Marquez is a CB, and that's where he should play next season. He and el Capitan had a good partnership in the beginning, and I think if both stay fit we can see it again.

I hope that Motta finally shows us what he's worth. I wanna see him as the starting DM. Edmilson can be like a super-sub I guess, both for CB and DM. So far he's been a complete waste of 9 million. I hope he proves me wrong this year.

Marquez is too slow. I don't trust the guy. I think he is overrated. If the team suffered when Marquez wasn't playing it was because both Motta and Edmilson were injured and the only guy to fill up the spot was Gerard.

I haven't seen Edmilson play that much after his injury. You can't expect the guy to be out of shape for 7 months and come in and play as if he was a regular starter. He needs time to learn the strategies again, to communicate with his team. The same for Motta. I believe his only weakness is his hot temper.

Remember Marquez had to adapt to being a DM. I wouldn't have any problems with his speed if he had a brilliant anticipation, which he doesn't. He's slow to the tackle and is outrun by most players. Let's see what this year brings us.

My feeling is that, if he starts as CB, Oleguer will get the place in the first XI after 10 games, as it happened 2 years ago.
I think Marquez is better in the defense, but I don't think it's better for our team because I'm not convinced that either Edmilson or Motta are better DM's than Marquez. That being the case (Marquez as DM), do you think Edmilson should replace Oleguer to start the season? I'm not so sure.

Still it's soon, but based in what I saw last season. I would play with Marquez in the DM with Motta as replacement and with Oleguer or Edmilson in CB. I'm not sure about the CB, since I didn't see Edmilson much.
