You were joking right?

I'm gonna have a stab in the dark at who I think will be manager come the start of the season ( because I'm bored :) ) So I reckon it will be... Mark Wright, with Dean Saunders as his assistant.

Two former Rams, new to management and coaching, it's as good a bet as any IMO.

Mark Wright was only appointed Peterboro manager a couple of weeks ago. wouldnt say much for his loyalty would it?

Well 5 managers currently in jobs have already applied for the Derby job, there's not much loyalty in football nowadays is there?

And I don't suppose many people outside Derby and Peterboro, would give a shyte.

You know I has heard a rumour he'd been 'poking' a players missus, hadn't heard a name mentioned, but he was up here away from family all the time, could also explain the disappearance of Tudgay from the squad for most of the run in. He was the Championship player of the month in February, he wasn't in the match squad fr most of april/may.
sounds more like Dallas to me (rather than derby county).

Jimmy Calderwood of Aberdeen, he has also had experience in Holland is linked now with the Rams job. It seems to be 100 managers linked to Derby. We better get one quick because it will be impossible to persuade players to sign for us when we don't have a manager!

Jimmy Who?

Apparently Derby made a shortlist of 50 managers, a bit big if you ask me, but rumour has it Billy Davies will definately be the man, Derby are believed too have already agreed a six figure compensation fee (alot of money we don't have that) Davies has postponed a family holiday for last ditch for last ditch talks with the Preston chairman.

On some scottish website, they say that the bigger crowds at Pride Park and better facilties etc... are expected to swat Davies decision towards the Rams.

just found out (from one of our sites) that both cloughie Jr. and Paul Hart have been mentioned as possible candidates. Although, Cloghie Jr. is more likely to join Pearce at man City.

I don't know if he would want too step down to assistant level too be honest, and I don't see him leaving Burton, before having a season in the new stadium and one last crack at promotion.

Hart? No Forest tossers alloowed, Clough only gets exception cuz he's a Clough :)

Mackay's vote goes to Davies

By Phil Harrison

Former Derby County manager Dave Mackay believes Billy Davies could be the man to take the club forward, were he to be installed as George Burley's successor at Pride Park this week.

The Preston North End boss' continues to be regarded as firm favourite for the position, despite his club issuing a "hands off" warning.

Davies is regarded as having worked something of a minor miracle at Deepdale after taking them from the bottom half of the Championship table to the play-off final in the space of only eight months.

It's believed his name tops the shortlist drawn up for the position by the Derby board on Friday and, according to further reports at the weekend, the Rams are preparing to approach the Lilywhites for permission to talk to the former Motherwell boss.

Mackay, who memorably led Derby to the First Division title in 1975, three years after the club's first triumph under Brian Clough and Peter Taylor, believes 41-year-old Davies could well be the right man.

While Mackay, who first came to the Baseball Ground as a player under Clough in 1968, was hugely disappointed with Burley's exit, he said the club needed to move on.

And installing Davies in the managerial hot-seat at Pride Park, he said, could prove to be the wisest move.

"Billy Davies already looks to be one of the leading candidates and there's no doubt he's done a fantastic job at Preston," said Mackay.

"He's young and up and coming so he'll be full of enthusiasm.

"It's vital they get this next appointment right if the good work of George Burley is to be continued.

"The next guy has got to do even better because he will be compared with what George did almost immediately."

Preston chairman Derek Shaw reacted to the threat of losing his manager by beginning talks on a new contract with Davies at the weekend.

Davies was initially appointed to succeed Craig Brown at Deepdale on a trial basis but, after immediate on-pitch success, was then given a 12-month rolling contract.

He turned the Lancashire club's season around and it was surprising to some that he wasn't offered an improved deal in the days after guiding his side to the Championship play-off final last month.

"I'd be happy to see Davies appointed," added Mackay.

"Derby County is a bigger club than Preston, no question. The facilities and everything else about the club are fabulous.

"And if he's been able to do such a brilliant job at Preston, then why not the same at Derby?

"Some people may be looking for a manager with more experience. That's okay but it's no good being an experienced manager if you've never actually done anything and been successful.

"Davies is a young manager, just starting out - but young managers have got to break in somewhere."

Meanwhile, Tranmere Rovers boss Brian Little and Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood are the latest names to be linked with Rams.

Newspaper reports over the weekend said both were in contention to become Burley's successor at Pride Park.

I personally like this bit

"Derby County is a bigger club than Preston, no question. The facilities and everything else about the club are fabulous. :D

You can't argue with a great man like Mackay.

Davies is big favourite now, even some Preston fans are starting to say they expect him too go, I just hope we sort it out soon, we need the new manager in ASAP.

I have always felt that Joe Kinnear is the right man for u. or perhaps derby is the right club for Joe. (whichever way u like it, Jimbo).

can't see any players wife having a crush on Fat Joe.

If Fat Joe even got as far as an interview, I'd murder the entire Board.

Though he was my manager of the year for last season, what he did at Forest was magical.

i am following the progress of his managerial career with great interest. IMO, he has spent enoguh time at Burton. of course, if he comes to pridelss park, it will be the biggest mistake of his life. he deserves a bigger club. anyway, if he is half as good as his father was he has brilliant days ahead of him. doesn't seem to have the same charisma though, isn't it?

poll from DET website of who the fans wanted as their new manager, surprised to see Stimac that high, legend but its obvious they don't see whats going on with Hajduk

Billy Davies 55.2%
Igor Stimac 18.2%
Nigel Clough 8.4%
Dean Saunders 4.0%
Gary Johnson 3.3%

other names (about 4) but they had less than 2.5% each

Maybe a move too a small League 1 club like Forest would be better for him.

Most hardcore Burton fans, don't even rate him much as a manager, but I will almost guarantee he won't leave this season, the coming season is Burton's biggest ever, add to that he's well down the list of managers wanted.

I've told people about your opinion on Stimac as a manager, but they don't believe me because Hajduk won the league.

Breaking News on Sky Sports, Yeovil have given Derby permission to speak to Gary Johnson.

Good manager, won league 2 with Yeovil last season, after gaining promotion from the conference, likes his sides too play football, which will suit our players, Presonally really hope we can persuade him too come.

Yeovil have confirmed the approach and the acceptance of the approach on their official website, though Derby aren't confirming it, saying no names will be mentioned untill a deal is done...everyone knows about it now, dunno why there still trying to keep it quiet.

Maybe there shocked that the Yeovil board tell there fans everything that goes on, instead of always keeping them in the dark.

you're also being linked to the assistant manager at Boro

Who's that then? Probably a former Derby coach McLaren took with him.

If Johnson agrees on a deal, it looks like it will be him, we can't afford to be fannying about, we need someone in asap.
