In case we win the cupfinal it would be our 10th domestic double. :star:

bring on the double, and bring on the trible since we are at it:D (the supercup:D)

btw, bier are u sure about those figures up there? i was so certain that we had won both the league and the cup back in 93-94

Yap ... I took it from the season-magazine of "Record" from last season (it was quite a work actually since I had to compare lists of cups and leagues of the three teams) ...
Looked it up again on your request now, we won the cup in 1992-1993 and the league in 1993-1994 :)

what a crappy game :rollani:

we had one of our worst games of the season , the players looked tired and wasted , and setubal was far from brilliant too....not to mention our fans, what the hell are those people doing there if they stay silent all game long?

big up for setuball supporters, noisy all the way

anyways, once more our worst players were fyssas (seriously, i hope he leaves), and nuno assis

i must say that moreira hasnt impressed me much either

oh well, we lost our chance of winning back the dobradinha, leaves a bit of a sour taste in the mouth, but what matters is that we are still champs ;) benfica sempre

Deserved victory for Setubal.

BTW: was anyone else surprised at some of the amazingly stupid mistakes Jorginho made today? There were times when he looked like an amateur out there.

Yap, I've seen it like this as well, and you put it quite diplomatic. Bet, he's lacking match-practise. However, when playing for a tropphy we should start ou winning-line-up, including Quim, Luisão and Dos Santos.

Não faz mal aquela derrota em Jamor, o glorioso ainda é campeão!!! Viva Benfica! :proud:

Quim and Dos Santos (Luisão was injured) should have played but the result is beyond the starting lineup. Motivation and mainly physical condition made Benfica lose this game and it was a deserved defeat. It also proved we really need to get much stronger regarding the next transfers.

Indeed, we need more squad depth ... our initial-lineup does not have the condition to stand the extra-strain the Champions League is gonna put onto their shoulders next season, and our second choice players can hardly cover the loss of two or three key-players in case of injuries or bans.

No doubt, depth for a long campaign is key. But both of you are putting way too much stock on this loss. Fact is, I was incredibly worried about this game. More so than even the Boavista game. It's very difficult not to have a let down after a week of partying and peeking emotionally. Setubal was better prepared, and it showed. Our squad was drained, totally out of focus after the week-long high of being champions. The performance was not unexpected here at all.

Queriam dobradinha? Leveram uma caldeirada setubalense... =P

Now, honestly, I really have to give it up to some benfiquistas who managed to surprise me. After the game they all congratulated Vitória and most of the setubalenses ones went to party with vitorianos anyway. I saw a lot of people with Benfica's shirts and Vitória's scarfs and most of them even joined the chants of "E o Benfica parou e o Vitória ganhou... no Jamor". It's nice to see some fair play sometimes.

But I still think benfiquistas are the craziest people. Honestly, if the final had been Sporting vs some other team (even if that team was indeed Vitória), and if we had played the way Benfica played, I'd have congratulated the other team (except if it had been Benfica of course - too much pride for that) but I mean, common, you wouldn't caught me dead celebrating our defeat.:rollani:

Somehow all Benfiquistas are in a celebration mood these days ... I give you three chances to tell me why. ;)
Maybe they'll celebrate one in another 11 years. :D

This was horrible. I don't really care that we were on a high from winning the championship - the performance was atrocious. Even after going one up, I said that if Setubal equalized, we would lose the game. Even BEFORE the penalty, we were forced to withstand heavy pressure and it was only a quick counter attack that lead us to our first half-chance with Gio who was brought down.

Now, since I haven't posted much since ... well, in a long time anyway ;) I will say this:

We must play with two up front. Angie can't do it on his own. Half the time he's putting his hair behind his ears, and the other half is spent running after a ridiculous inaccurate pass/cross. When we just play with the one up front and Nuno I-Play-Like-Crap-And-Get-Subbed-For-Mantorras-After-70-Mins Assis, we put NO pressure on the opposition. It doesn't matter one bit that we have "more" in midfield, since the opposing defense has all the more room to move up to support THEIR midfield. The idea is to gain an advantage in the middle of the park, but it seems like it works just the opposite way for us. What's the magic word when it's not working? More forwards. Mantorras for Assis, Karadas for Gio or Nuno. Same thing almost every time.

And godddamn it. On FF I saw that Quim isn't getting scorched for his performances. WHY?! What a clown. I can't remember what game I really noticed it, but he pretty much let in three goals on his own. I think it was the 4-3 game where we led 3-1 and Mantorras saves our asses in the last minute at home. Every save he makes is a TV-save a la Oliver Kahn. He makes it look great even though it was really just a shot-block and he couldn't hold on to it.

Manuel Fernandes is god.
Sokota should be hanged.

That is all. ;)

Because Simão is finally going to get a decent haircut? Somehow I don't think such a thing is possible.

Or they can try and beat Sporting's drought of 17 years. :D
So maybe we did spend 17 years *not* winning the league, but we can be proud about this not being our main team.
