As Cafu is 34 yrs old, it's possible to expect him to handle 65+ games next season AGAIN. :stress: Billy, Stam and Simic looks like adequate replacement defensively speaking, but when it comes to attacking, they aren't the solutions AT ALL. As our regular right mid is GATTUSO, our RB has to be strong at attacking down the flank.

There are many names rumoured, here's a list of them and some comments. Can any mods give me a hand to create a poll on the following options? many thanks. :smileani:

1. Oddo

pro: may come cheap(lazio), resemble Cafu's style, former primervera

cons: 29 yrs old, not long term solution, may not accept bench

2. Casseti

pro: resemble Cafu's style, gd crosses and long shots, accept bench

cons: not young either, fee maybe high as just having best season

3. Mesto

pro: Young, impressed when played against Milan, will accept bench, come cheap

cons: uncertain quality yet, a gamble, carlo doesn't like youngsters, even coloccini failed to get a game

4. Miguel

pro: proven in euro04, strong in defending, young

cons: face tough competition including Juve, may not accept bench

5. Seitardis

pro: proven in euro04, strong in man-marking, VERY young

cons: not resembling Cafu style, if fielded with Gattuso, then our right sided attacks would be sterile.

6. Maicon

pro: good copa last summer, did well in France this yr, YOUNG

cons: never seen him play, thus a big uncertainty, price maybe high

7. De Jong

pro: versatile, can be CB, RB or RM, skilful, VERY young

cons: poor tactical sense, may willing to stay in Ajax

8.Trabelsi

pro: hv CL experience and played as CB in Tunisia

cons: being benched in ajax for some time, may not come cheap

9. Bonera

pros: constant hype to be next best thing, starting RB in Azzuri

cons: overhyped, mediocre, over-priced, having a piss poor season

10. Mancini

pro: unstoppable on the right when in-form, resemble Cafu style

cons: having a piss poor season, even worse than Cafu in defending, expensive, poor tactical sense

Who would you prefer if you were Galliani? ;) Don't tell me SImic/Pancaro would be solution next season AGAIN :depress: , it's proven this season to be wrong assumption. ;) :stress:

thanks.:)

I liked Hetinga in Euro 2004. I wonder how is he doing this season.

It don't see it that way. Milan plays an asymmetrical defence, where Cafu wanders forward much more than Maldini/Kaladze on the left. I think Jankulowski will be bought to achieve the same on the left side, leaving the option open to use a more defensive RB.

I'd probably go with either of the first three on your list. Although Mancini could improve defensively under the tuition of the top class defenders we have , he would probably be best in as a wing back or in a 3-4-1-2 formation (which wouldn't necessarily be bad...:veiled: ) and Carletto favours a back four.

Mesto would be good in that already he has abilty and can still improve. I don't necessarily think Ancelotti doesn't like youngters. Look at Kakà for example, and Pirlo was still only 23 when he moved him to position he plays now and changed him into the player we all love today :). And of course Gilardino if all is to be belived.......;)

All in all, I don't Cafu is finished yet by any stretch  but it's deffo a postion we need to look at. I'm sure Zio Fester, Berlusconi and Braida have something up their collective sleeves :star:

The Barracuda has hit the nail on the head. Given the choice I would pick Miguel right now. We have to remember that our play depends on our fullbacks a lot for the width hence they are key positions. A Brasilian RB is the best back-up IMO.

I agree Haroon. Looking at the least, Miguel is one of Benfica's finest but I don't see him going anywhere but Turin. Juventus have given him alot of attention this year and are probably whipping out their checkbooks as we speak.

@ Barracuda

:D ... you get the picture. ;)

@ Flo

I think that Juve will get him as well and he is quite the right back. My previous preference was Trabelsi but Miguel is just better in most areas. Let's see what happens. Gilardino for us is the more important transfer.

And Jankulovski too Haroon? Gilardino + Jankulovski right?
Yes. Both have been linked quite heavily in the past with us and no competition for their signature till recently. Gilardino is the more important transfer as he is a well known striker across Europe now and other clubs are vying for his signature.

As for Belletti. We can't get him right now because:

1) He is your starter

2) He won't come here to sit on the bench. Cafu will still be the starter at Milan next season.

You know, the ideal replacement for Cafu would be..

BELLETTI

..he has an Italian passport and he is awesome in attack, but not very good in defense

Though I doubt Barça would sell him.
The ideal replacement? It's a joke? I need to laugh? Sorry but this player is no good to play in Milan :nono:

There is no another player like Cafu in the all world, I don't have any player at my mind at this moment, Bonera sucks this season :yuck:

It's very difficult to find good LB and RB at this moment, R. Carlos, Maldini and Cafú are the exceptions (with Tassotti and Panucci at high level too)

Jankulovski will probably be wingback next season, and eventually replace Cafú. I'm not particularry fond of Pancaro. He's a hardworking player that doesn't compain and will run for most of the games, but he's not getting younger and he's a bit "plain" for Milan IMO. Kaladze is also not coming back to his old form, he's been average at best this year.

About the players mentioned:

Oddo, Great player. Once owned by us actually. I'd welcome him, but he isn't that young either.

Cassetti, I'm fond of this player cause he's very offensive and ready for a big team now. Already 28 unfortunately.

Mesto, Not too impressed with him, I have a feeling he won't make it here.

Miguel seems like Juve want him too. Great player for sure.

Seitaridis Very good aswell, perhaps even better defensively then offensively. Very relyable and smart.

Maicon, must still improve and play longer in Europe. Trabelsi is probably off to Arsenal or Man U. De Jong is not mature enough for Milan, I don't like the butcher Bonera and Mancini hopefully stays at Roma. Add Parisi to that list too, But I don't think he's Milan material either.

One interesting alternative might be Sevilla's Daniel Alves, who was U-19 World Champion with Brazil last year (and MVP of the tournament's final, by the way). He's very strong going forward, has a good tactical sense and can be quite dominating on the right side. This kid has enormous potential. ;)

sorry but I think a more attacking RB is a must in our system.

If we have a more defensive RB on the right, and Gattuso remains on right mid, who'll supply the attack in our right side?

That's why I still have doubts about Janku's signing. :stress: He's a natural LM who can also play at LB. But in our system, our LB has to be defensive to cover the more attacking LM, Seedorf.

The only way 'a more defensive RB' would be useful is that, if Rino falls out of favour :stress: , Ambrosini starts as LM and Seedorf as RM. Then in that case we would need a more attacking left back to help out Ambro, and a more defensive right back to help out Seedorf. HOWEVER,;) I don;t think Gattuso would be benched for anyone in the near future  , he WOULD be the starting right midfielder next season, that's why we are talking abt a 'Cafu-style-back-up' here. :hopefull:

An attacking right back to back up Cafu is a MUST. We can't stick with Simic, Pancaro or Billy in that position anymore IMO. :stress: We need a Cafu alias on the bench to help him out.:heart:

It would be nice to see Mesto go to Milan. Possibility that he would improve... although I think Oddo will go to Milan or even Marco Motta of Atalanta.

I would prefer either Oddo or Mesto....

by the by...Oddo has a good FK ability and looking at stats he is the one that made more crosses in seria a than anyone else!!!!

ODDO+Jankulovski...sounds solid for me....
Mesto still needs a time to mature....
