Who is Brazil's Best Defender?

Who's Brazil's best defender today? Discussing who's the worst might be entertaining but it would have little purpose... but who is the best?

Would it be Lucio? Juan? Alex? The best can also be a fullback or a defensive mid, not necessarily a centreback. Who do you think is our best defender?

Let's have some nominations and later we can add a poll here. :)

I'm a little biased but I pick Cafu. He's approaching 35 but still runs with the legs & lungs of a player 10 years younger, and he still plays the game with great enthusiasm. His smile reminds me of Ronaldinho Gaucho, a player who simply enjoys playing football and I rarely (if not never) see him lose his temper on the pitch. The best right back in world football for the past decade  and a model professional :star:

For zagueiros, I like what I see of Juan for the NT in Copa America and for Bayer Leverkusen so far, a shame he has to play with a partner like Roque Junior :D

Of the players I have seen (clearly not the extent of you guys) I'd say I like Alex as somebody who actually is a quality defender. Lucio and Juan are quality as well, but are as appreciated for offensive contribution as defense.

In my opinion it is Cafu. He is the most relieable defender we have, one with most regularity and the better tatical reading of all of them. But then Cafu is a obvious, because he is among the best defender in the world.
In the central defense the best defender we have was turned in a no-option by the miopism of our coaches, that is Dininho. Great covering, positioning and calm.
Of all names Parreira usually calls I am between Lucio - who is a good defender but not a good head - and Luizao, who is a good defender that have a good speed despite his size.

Juan, Lucio and Luisão

I think that Rodrigo (from São Paulo FC) would became a good defender but now the guy went to Ukrainian Football and blow his chance :wallbang:

I think Luisao, with Lucio, Alex and Anderson Polga coming close second.

I was immensely impressed with Rochemback in the U-23s qualifying.

I'll take Álex though based on raw talent, but I haven't seen him much since going to PSV.

I have to say Cafu. He is probably one of the most calm and cool-headed football player I've ever seen. Maybe I'm wrong, but honestly, I've never seen him mad or pissed of on the pitch eventhough he was horribly tackled. Very reliable and good work rate even in his low form.

Juan is second choice to me. Great defending skill and marking game. He surprised me by marking Ronaldo and Figo all the time in Bayer vs Real match early this season.
