After the debacle that is Old Trashford when we were sorely missing our talisman, a certain Mr. Danny Murphy, we are now back to the bread and butter of the Premiership. It is sad that we could not inflict another dent on United's title hopes but now, we have to play for third place.

So the Canaries come to town and it is my hope that Rafa's boys can redeem themselves from a diabolical and shambolic display down the East Lancs Road by roasting the Canaries and send them back to East Anglia with a 4-0 scoreline.

Anything less than that, be sure that this Liverbird will bring out his acidic tongue and lash at the players who have been flattering to deceive.

This is Anfield, not the Theatre of Wet Dreams or Carrot Road.

A victory would do. We're not going for the league or at other teams this season, just going for new, good footie and a new mentality/attitude.

Bring it down a little would you, LB? Let's go hard on the team when they've finally improved for the better. Now is not the time to take action, now is the time to think and figure things out.

Karrma, i dunno if the display at Old Trashford was a step forward but we need to move in the opposite direction that's for sure. To really move forward we need to acknowledge that was the horror show and learn from our mistakes.

Hye_pride, i would understand if you were talking about Aleko Eskandarian, but Milan Baros??? C'mon, dude! :) I'd give Cisse 5-6 more weeks to prove he isn't another Diouf.

Oh come on eymc.. so now it's a make it or break it game? after what? 5 games into the new season.. I agree we should win.. I agree we should put on a display that would erase last week's result.. but I won't put these deadlines and targets.. what happens if we DO win? We'd be branded as championship material? Then we lose again and we're back in the same circle..

If no one has noticed.. our away form has been our issue in the league.. although it's still too early to call an issue.. especially when losses were away to Bolton (who, believe it or not, have turned the Reebok into a fortress) and Man U (Don't like the fact that we lost.. but it IS Old Trafford we're talking about.. so a loss isn't a shock result)..

I think the line up is pretty well determined.. 4-5-1.. with Xabi and Hamann teaming up in the middle.. LG and Kewell in the offensive midfield spots.. and Finnan running around the right flank.. I would much rather see LG and Kewell on the flanks.. and Baros and Cisse playing together.. why? Gerrard used to add a dimension or two when he was playing.. he's not.. Hamann will add solidity to the defence.. but we've surely taken a hit offensively.. while Finnan is improving, there's still a lot more that can be done.. and I would prefer we pile the pressure from the start..

Norwich (with WBA) have been the draw specialists till now.. their only losses were to Man U and Arsenal.. and they were able to snatch a draw from St. James' thanks to a Doherty goal.. IMO, their whole team relies on 2 players.. Huckerby and Holt.. The issue with Huckerby is his speed and unpredictability.. I think Josemi can handle that well on the flank.. it's Hyypia and Carra I'm worried about..

Zico, I agree we need to learn from the Man U experience.. and learn to live without Gerrard for a while.. but I certainly disagree with the "Anything less than that, be sure that this Liverbird will bring out his acidic tongue and lash at the players who have been flattering to deceive" part in LB's post.. If we were still managed by GH, I would've agreed.. but we have a NEW manager.. a new era if u'd like to call it.. a new system.. formation.. players.. etc.. Although there is a minimum quality measure I have in mind for each player.. but at times like this, I'd be as patient as possible.. Kewell, Hyypia, Cisse, Dudek and Baros (for instance) have a lot to prove.. but I don't want proof to be over one game.. or two before the fans (or the club and Rafa actually :)) decide on them.. if so, we could have based it on the Monaco game and said we have excellent lads (or the Celtic pre season game).. I think Rafa knows what he's doing.. he's taking his time in deciding.. which is right..

****ing hell, i see the cream of Liverpool's support is out in force again (yes you Liver and EYMC)

there's no harm in demanding the best of our team ;)
If only.

Unfortunately we have Liverbird sitting on his throne like Calligular issuing demands, setting targets, and being a tw@t.

Could do with less 'supporters' like him.

Or you!! Until now, I do not recall ONE post by u where u voiced your opinion on a match.. and other than the LG thread, I don't recall a thread where u didn't take a swipe at some other XTer here..

I still find it amazing that we can't get the idea of other people having other opinions (even if these opinions seem as outrageous and out there as possible).. Like u, I disagree with LB's attitude, ideas and ways of measurement.. but it doesn't mean I have to bash him or revert to name calling.. I don't know about the others, but that's much more annoying than LB's views..

Sorry if I'm being too aggressive.. didn't get enough sleep

Our starting line up last night was a unexpected one..

Dudek in goal..
Finnan, Hyypia, Carra and Riise in defence
L Garcia, X Alonso, Hamann and Warnock in midfield
Cisse and Baros upfront..

Diao, Biscan and Traore came on as subs for Cisse, Warnock and Alonso..

From what I've read, Xabi took full control of the game.. making the best of Hamann's defensive abilities by allowing himself to go forward.. It was one way action.. with Dudek barely getting a touch..

Can't wait to see the goals.. Good result in preperation for the trip to Greece..

From BBC:
Benitez sets sights high

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez expressed delight after his side's 3-0 win over Norwich, but said his players still had to "raise their level".

The Spaniard singled out Xabi Alonso and insisted the club could survive without injured captain Steven Gerrard.

"Xabi is a very clever player, I am pleased for him," said Benitez.

"We do not have Gerrard, but we have four other players who in midfield. What is important is that we play well - it does not matter who is playing."

Benitez added: "I learn all the time about my team, we still need to progress and still raise our level.

"We played well here but I still need to see my team play against stronger sides."

Alonso backs Cisse
by Ben Linfoot - Last Updated 25 Sep 2004

LiverpoolXabi Alonso has backed his Liverpool team-mate Djibril Cisse to start scoring goals in The Premiership.

The under-fire French striker has scored only once for his new club in the league, on the first day of the season at Tottenham, and was notably quiet at Old Trafford in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Monday night.

Yet Alonso, who has adapted quickly to the demands of the English game, insists Cisse will start scoring once the new-look Liverpool begin to gel.

He said: "I've spent time with him at the training ground to get to know him and he is a very good player and a very good person.

"It is just a question of getting to know him. We don't always know the movement that Djibril is going to do.

"But that is improving and by working hard here we can know each other better. He is a goalscorer and we have to keep him at his level."

Liverpool have lost two of their three away games this season, scoring just twice on their travels. Alonso admitted work needs to be done, and insists the squad are working with Rafael Benitez to sort out their troubles.

"We spend time on the training ground working on the connection between the midfielders and the strikers," said Alonso. "Rafa is working to sort out these problems.

"I'm sure he is frustrated but it takes time, and that is why we are working on it. It will come."
