This month of December will be one of the toughest of this season with an average of two matches per week and it starts with a tough away game in Madeira. Marítimo is having a fairly good season showing a good attack but also a not so solid defence. They already forced Porto to a draw so it will not be easy.

Sporting will be without our two regular forwards, Teo Gutiérrez is still injured and Slimani is suspended for one match after seeing his 5th yellow last week. JJ will probably field the same attacking duo that did so well in Moscow: Montero and Bryan Ruiz.

First goal chance is for Marítimo after a corner but Rui was there.

At 30' Sporting's first two goal chances both by Bryan Ruiz with his shots being blocked by a defender and saved by the keeper.

A very balanced first half that went as expected. Marítimo starting very strong not letting Sporting have the ball and even creating a couple of dangerous chances both coming from corners. Sporting reacted and could also have scored through Bryan Ruiz.

It's obvious that for a game like this we really miss the neverending work of Slimani besides his dangerous presence upfront but we also miss the attacking moves of Jefferson who is clearly not playing at 100%.

Matheus, Tanaka and maybe even Podence may be called later on to shake things upfront.

tough game

Gelson Martins is impressing IMO some of our best attacks came through him.

Fantastic team goal by Sporting with João Pereira finding Bryan Ruiz who launched João Mário on the right flank and our great academy product managed, after a cool dribble, to make a perfect back cross that found Adrien in the heart of the box to finish with a low shot.

Sporting ahead 1-0 at 54'.

Great counter by Sporting but Gelson's finish was poor.

Marítimo has their only dangerous shot of this second half but Rui Patrício makes an excellent save.

Great second half by Sporting with all that needed to be changed by JJ being done and consequently the team started ticking in a completely different way. We scored a top class goal, controlled the game and managed to avoid any real reaction by Marítimo.

6 straight league win and 5th straight game without conceding a goal. roud:

Grit, class and some very big balls: that's Sporting this season and that's the way to reach our aims.
