Net spending across Europe this summer:

Man City of over 200 mil spending and 130 mil net. PSG close from 100 mil net.

Milan, with no CL income spending 80 mil net.

What is going on? What's Platini's excuse?

Im no expert in FFP, but doesn't the clubs have some years to balance the books? Even if they buy as City or Milan in this window.

FFP never was about transfers alone, so the above figures show absolutely nothing connected to the topic. But the concept of FFP was a failure from the beginning, so the thread itself is correct, just too late. One day after the installation would have been appropriate.

What did the FFP actually achieve? As far I'm aware the clubs which were penalized heavily were destitute clubs, struggling to survive most years and making European competition was a huge deal for them that was also summarily taken away.

Not that it's ever right to be indebted and not pay your players, but that's not what the FFP was advertised for, and I'm certain UEFA banned financially unhealthy clubs before too.

The FFP was advertised to curb financial doping, but the formulation of the rules was just not able to do that. So City spend 30-60 million net for a few years, so what? Doesn't matter to them, or PSG. They'll just be late to the trophies but they'll get there anyway.

I doubt any set of rules can stop foreign investment from coming into football. They'd be better served trying to make foreign investment more accessible to smaller clubs, and find wealth sharing mechanisms, but then that's the respective associations job not really UEFAs.

Are you implying FFP was alive at any point? I resent this implication!

I think it mattered. They stopped winning because their squad was needing an overhaul and they couldn't do it because of FFP. Now they spent over 200 mil and seem to be on their way to win another title.
Well all the clubs are doing it..

In serie a its just "smaller" scale than the English clubs.

Milan, Inter, Bologna even Roma..
