Wenger we'll always prefer Mertesacker to him when the German is not injured, and I don't think it's the best decision. He's getting even slower and I'm sure we'll cost us more goals this season.

Possibly. What I think AW likes is the Mert/Kos combination, which is nicely balanced. I think he definitely sees Gabriel/Chambers as the replacement or long term partnership though. At 29/31 Kos and Mert won't be around forever.

He was a boss against Liverpool and should definitely be starting ahead of Mertz at this point.

As newmoldo said though, Wenger is a little slow to realize this.
