Has the myth of Messi being "NT choker" been destroyed once and for all?

OP's question has an obvious answer but I'm sure 99% even of his fan boys won't dare from now and to even mention his name in the same sentence of Maradona.

Most people say Valdivia was the MVP of this one , and I haven't heared anyone bar DT to say he was MVP of the WC but so be it. I hope he achieves that record :thmbup:

Valdivia was brilliant(don't know why he was taken off in the final). Isla was great too. As for Messi being the MVP of both WC and Copa, Neuer and Robben were better in the WC and Valdivia, for one, in the Copa. The Golden Balls in major tournaments should not be taken too seriously these days. And, nobody is saying that he is a choker, just that he is not in the league of Pele, Diego, Beckenbauer and Cruyff and he is surrounded by better players at the club level.

There were probably a combination of things as to why he refused the award. He was probably so disappointed with his performance that he himself probably felt unjust to receive the award. I think if he was top scorer at this tournament he takes home that award. Tbh Messi is more noble than I thought. - I posted this in the World Football forum

Too add, two simple words.... marketing and media

Messi at Barca: 286goals/315games = 0.9GPG won almost everything avialable

Now with NT: won NOTHING so far but a Youth WC!

Is Messi a choker? or has he simply choked to the standard of being number 1 all time which he clearly is not.

I don't see how you can blame one player for a team and football culture that constantly chokes.

Yes Barcelonas winning football culture has helped Messi to 3 CL and 4 ballon D'or plus more.

But Brasil and Santos created the same platform for Pele ( I know not exactly ).

What Diego did with Napoli and Argentina is special, regardless of goals and Ballon D'ohs.

The idea that Messi plays for some super incredible club team that has never been seen before is unfair. They are a really good team and yes this is a very good Spanish era but Messi is what makes them incredible. They would've had a lot of 0-0 draws without him during the tiki-taka era.

My guess is that they would have 1 CL 2 LaLigas and would have been dismantled.
