I'm talking about the phenom of them all, Diego Ribas da Cunha. The 18 year old prodigy playing for Santos. It's no secret this guy is arguably the most dominant youngster to revive a team and take them to the championship since Pele. He just seems to have the winning spirit and work ethic that only comes once in a generation. I don't see any youngster in Brazil or South America that has the talent to rise to the occation during big games and take over. The style he plays the game, the passion he has is just amazing.

I've only been a hardcore fan for 2 seasons now and maybe I am just overreacting because I don't have much experience but Diego has totally won me over and blown me away. He is such an amazing talent and I predict him to be considered one of the world's best by the time he is 22 years old. Hence, that will be during the 2005 or 2006.

I think he'll turn out to be one of the best in awhile. I also think he's going to be better then Ronaldinho. So the question is how good do you see him becoming and will he be better then 'Dinho eventually? :)

He should be in THIS Copa - too many games in America do Sul as usual
Its not too many games - about 7 a month, just like the European teams. The problem is the calendar. If the Brasilian calendar was in sync with the European one, there wouldn't be any problems. If Arsenal were in the middle of the EPL and the Champions League today, Henry wouldn't be playing for the French NT in the CC.

Nope. This year's league is making us look almost organized. :eekani: If we keep this up, the only things that will be recognizable in Brazilian football will be the yellow shirt, and our "unmotivated" Seleçao players dragging their asses in friendly matches. :scream: :stress:

But of course the innovations won't stop there, the future waits for no one. :dazed: Next year they'll introduce some more innovations, like a Sao Caetano that doesn't choke in decisive matches and an updated version of Eurico Miranda: the 2004 version will have one new ingredient, honesty. :rollani: There is also some talks about a 2005 release of "Flamengo fans who aren't obnoxious", but George Lucas still hasn't signed the contract to produce the necessary special effects. :mute: :D

garrincha,

But the Flamengo fan part, they do live off the past. What are the claiming now?? Flamengo is at least the second best team of the country cause they reached the Copa do brasil final:eek:

The Fla fans say crap like "Deixou chegar" and "a raça rubro-negra desequilibra", and such nonsense. Some of them apparently think the amount of noise they make will increase their team's chances of winning; So for example, in this first game of the final hundreds and hundreds of "cornetas" were distributed around the stands, so whenever Flamengo lost possession of the ball to Cruzeiro, all the fans blow their "cornetas" at the same time, producing an absurdly loud noise. ;eekani:

That procedure was tried for the first time against Vasco in a state championhsip, and it was funny for about one minute. The second time you hear it it's not funny anymore, it's unbelievably annoying. AND it doesn't work in their benefit, as was proven in more than one match – but common sense doesn't stop them from being loud and obnoxious.

in Brazil or in the world?

In the world, no doubt is a packed La Bombonera

In Brazil, as for stadium i would go with Vila Belmiro, were teh fans are 2 meters away from teh players and can throw coins etc..

Well Patrick,

As you follow this forum all the time, i think you know almost eveyone's opinion on Diego. IMO he is ready to be a starter for Brazil.

If he is going to be a better player than Ronladinho gaucho? Well nobody can answer that really.... but both are brilliant, but different in there game.

However, Diego at 18 has a more matured football than Ronladinho. Ronaldinho only reached his maturity tactically last year (around January, February), while Diego right now is already reaching that level now.;)

About Diego, I agree with everything that Ze said. I think Ronaldinho has the edge on raw skill, but Diego seems to be maturing alot faster. Anyways, both should be starters for the NT IMO.

About the most intimidating place to play, I'd say La Bombonera as well, they're not only the loudest fans but are also right on top of the players.

I think Diego is an obvious national team player for the future. I do believe, however, that there's no rush. At Diego's age, even with all his premature character and intelligence on the field, we must let things happen naturally. There are other guys we can use without fear; and playing in Brazil, Diego will naturally have many opportunities to strut his stuff.

Tactically, looking at WC 2006 I think he has a very reasonable chance of claiming a place in the first team – even moreso when we look at the sytem Parreira is trying to build. The position Ze Roberto has been playing in might be ideally suited for Diego; I just think there's no need to put so much pressure on the kid. ;) Parreira will demand some defensive contribution in there, but I think Diego can adapt to that role.

At this point, it's really a matter of Diego being smart: Ronaldinho is young and currently untouchable, and he has claimed his position in a World Cup; Diego knows that if he wants a position he'll have to look elsewhere. His attention then would go to Kleberson and Ze Roberto's positions. And Ze Roberto's role is something Diego can do very well, granted he makes that extra defensive effort.

I'm actually glad these lads will play the pre-Olympics (and the Olympics after them). It can be a great stepping stone for a lot of them.

Fenerbache To Move For Diego

Diego (Ivan Storti)
06/14/2003.
According to the latest reports out of Turkey, Fenerbache are set to make a $10 million (8.5m Euro) offer for FC Santos' baby-faced midfield sensation Diego.

"Every player is negotiable, but for $10 million it will be very difficult," opined the hyper-talented 18-year-old's father Djair Ribas. "I find that Diego is still young and should fulfil the contract with Santos to the end."

Diego, who is known to be on the respective wish-lists of Internazionale and Juventus (as well as many others), is under contract with Santos until 2004.

soccerage

Fenerbahce must be kidding, no way Santos would let their most talented player in 30 years go for a bargain of 10 million $.

but would you really bet on Diego going to Fener?

Such is his talent he should look for Spain or Italy when he leaves straight away.
