Edit again: Just been informed by my source that Rickie Lambert deal is ON. 100%. Clearly means reducing Lallana's fee....

I think it's all part of a sneaky plan, we'll blow away teams in the Champions league with breathless football and in the final, there will be a penalty shoot out and step up Rickie 'King of Penalties' Lambert to slot in the winner!

He definitely offers something that we don't have and what we lack(ed), also probably has a couple of good seasons left in him, he's a Liverpool fan, and definitely wouldn't have problems being "only" a squad player that won't start every game.

Lambert is a goalscorer plain and simple. When you need something different to unlock a defence he will be an excellent option imo. He's also the best English free kick taker.

if we sign BOTH lallana and lovren, then i don't mind signing lambert too;i prefer him as a backup to iago aspas or some other foreigner!at least with lambert,we know what we can expect.he will be a GOOD backup striker!

crazy story, came out of nowhere

seems the deal is 4mil+add ons not sure how this really affects the lallana deal, thats too low of a fee assuming it has any effect on Lallana

guess this means Borini is a goner :| ....tremendous story for Lambert though, playing in the 4th tier of English football during the 2006 WC, now playing for the national team in the 2014 WC and on the brink of securing a move to his boyhood club

I don't think it means Borini is off. If we continue to play with 2 strikers up top, then we'll need the depth. Aspas is gonzo, and Sturridge won't stay fit for a whole season. Combine that with us playing a shite ton of games, we'll need the depth and probably rotate the strikers a fair amount. Keep them fresh. Towards the end of the season, both Suarez and Sturridge were dead tired.

Lambert would indeed be a smart investment in that price range, regardless of his age. Flawless penalty and superb free kick taker, good in the air, strong, technically up to par for the football Rodgers likes to play, and has a past with the club/city already. I don't see how you could go wrong with that deal, especially if we're looking at him replacing Aspas and/or Borini. A different player in that regard, but a more accomplished one that can offer something lacking from the current options and add some more variety to your attack (as if it doesn't have enough already :D).

Lambert, Moreno, Lallana, and Lovren would be an excellent summer. Team still needs another defensive minded midfielder and perhaps a winger though, but those additions would really be key and add some new elements of strength to the squad still lacking.
