After watchin the gala-fener derby I seriously started to think that the majority of the turkish fans could be called anything but smart. they sing the same songs throughout the match no matter what happens on the field. Although they are warned numerous times that their club will be be penalized should they insist on throwing objects to the pitch, they seem indifferent and keep on doin their thing. ý was an avid follower of my beloved gala for more than 20 years however i hadnt been to a match for a couple years just because of the stupidnessess i witness recently. Ýmagine you try to find a ticket, pay a hefty price for it, go through all those troubles to just get in the match and what do you get in return? Some people whom consider themselves as the head of the fans absue and harass you for reasons such as you are not singing loud enough, you m*********r dont just sit stand up and shout!! I cant recall how many times i had been threatened just because i was trying to make a point to them. The rest 30 thousand people can not say f*** off to them. Why do the fans need other people to stipulate them what to shout or sing durin a match anyway. so fascistic! who r these guys and how do they make their livings? The answer is plain simple: on the club on the directors and on the players. If the players and directors do not grease these guys palms on a regular basis they should better forget to receive backings from the fans!! when they really need it.I can not understand why the government does nothing about the growing violence and hatred in the world of football in Turkey? I think like always they r waitin for something really big to happen but then who will pay the price when this big thing happens? The whole Turkey is bein kept hostage to some criminals the goal of whom is to make money and satisfy their lack of egos by beatin the shit out of other(I would like to write more on this issue but i am aware that this forum is about football not social science)

You have opened a very sensitive debate and i agree with almost everything you wrote!

Things have gone overhand and nobody seems to do anything about it....its a ticking bomb waiting to explode!

Dude what the fans are doing is that a matter of IQ but EQ. In recent years EQ has become more accepted than IQ and I personally think IQ does not prove shit except how well will do in school or in a science lab. EQ determines how you react to life and how you interact. Many of these people have a very low EQ.

I have been to a lot hammers match but never been beaten cos i objected booing a seriously injured opposition player while he was bein carried out of the pitch!!!what was i thinkin? if he is not playin for my team let him burn in hell!!

Yes, you are right. This happens in Turkey a lot. Fener and galata and BJK have this method. BUt it is hard to stop it because they are backed by the club managers. I disagree some what though. They create a great athmosphere and pump the team up. So I say this if you just wanna watch the game and not scream stay home and watch. But if you wanna yell and motivate your team go to the games.

Does anybody know where I can download the fan songs of Galatasaray??

Thx

I hate West Ham being my local club, they got the dumbest fans ever !!! If you say ur a Man Utd fan ur considered a "glory hunter" well when me m8 said that to me I called him a "shit hunter" which he is, supports West Ham afterall

I think you are wrong in accusing only Turkish fans.Unfortnunately such things happen in other countries, look in Italy,in France and others.I think it's a general problem, especially more in the last years. In Italy, even bigger problem occured with the racism, and in France, each time there is an Olypmique de Marseille-Paris Saint-Germain game, they have to take incredible precautions and also in other games. It seems all this has increased in the last years.

Dont get me wrong i am not only talkin about the violence that surrounds the football pitch nowadays.I am just trying to point out that most of the fans in the stadium can not care less about the quality of the football that is offered to them. And not only the fans, the media as well.I watched the beþiktaþ-gençlerbirliði tie last week and even during such a breathtaking match all i heard (except the dyin minutes and the ot) from the fans was words of swear. or think that your team is 2-0 up against your rivals and have a shot at the championship with this win and you throw a fake phone that you had had manufactured solely for this match to the pitch. fair enough. But you do not get satisfied and keep on throwin a bottle of cognac, some half-biten apples etc. Sounds familiar? Now probably your team will have to play one or two matches without any audiences, a hardship that may a have a big impact on your shot at the championship. Maybe I was wrong for naming such fans as dumb, they just dont give a rats ass about their team, the only thing they care about is ......... (I really cant make it out!)

In other countries the crazy fans sit behind the goal and then the people who like to sit during the match sit towards midfield, is this how it is in TUrkey?

Although the thing s that happen in the stadium is unclever and violance it has a powerful effect on the other teams player motivation. In important matches it is costly but usuallty it works. As an example Hasan Sas couldnt take the corner and didnt play in that match at all Fener won that match 6-0. Same thing happen to rebrovFener lost 2-0.Rebrov said to newspapers that he couldnt put his mind to the game because of the atmosphere.I think it is a good strategy although it is costly. So stupid or clever.:D

I haven't read your piece entirely, because you need to type more efficiently. It looks like a mess (referring to the lack paragraphs etc.)

I think Turkish people have a strong we-feeling. They feel their strongest when they're backed up by a group. And what do you get when you put such people in stadiums? They group together. It's a very basic psychological thing and you don't have to refer to IQ because in no way can a countries people be dumber than other countries. The averages will almost be the same.
Ingroup vs. Outgroup; Our group is the best. The others are sons of whores. They can do no good etc...

I think trying to broaden your knowledge to other cultures instead of your own will partly solve this problem. They can start doing this by giving more history lessons about other countries as well, instead of talking about how great Mustafa Kemal was all the time. (this is no attack on the man himself btw)

I'm a Turk myself and the only reason I talked about that because I know how their attitude is. You have to stop taking it so personal because it isn't. In my eyes you can only start seeing what your culture is (and the beauty of it) if you start looking at it from another angle. Thats by learning about other cultures as well.

Dude I'm not talking out of my arse here. I have no intention to. Turks are culturally more group-based than Europeans who are more individual-based. But if it comes to football there'll always be the question: Which team do you support? And you're more liked if the answer is the one the questioner is looking for.

Interesting topic and some interesting posts....

It goes without saying that there is a genuine problem in the Turkish Super Ligi stands. Year by year it seems to be getting worse and no brave soul, whether it be the chairman of the TFF or the club officials, is willing to tackle this problem head on. It seems that for many years this problem was brushed under the carpet and eventually has reached this point.

Lets take a few seconds to think back what we have been subjected to from the stands. Constant verbal abuse at the oppositions players, coaching staff, board members and club president. Missiles ranging from lose coins, to stones, plastic bottles, glass bottles, mobile phones, knives and A GUN!! Degrading banners so on and so forth. It seems as though when our beloved club does it, we find ourselves defending their actions. Our love for our club makes us so blind that we cannot accept anything wrong attached to it. Even if we attempt to accept something we always have an excuse ready. These are normally along the lines of, "well you done it when we came to your stadium", "you started it" etc etc...

Common sense will tell us that two wrongs don't make a right. However, where football and our club is concerned common sense goes out the window. It becomes a case of who can out do who and get browny points. Who awards these browny points is another question...!?

Let's look at some recent events. Trabzonspor are alarmed at the fact that they may face stadium closure after fans were throwing some objects on the the pitch against BJK. They are claiming that the referee anouncements are punishment enough as they were harsh and the objects thrown were not as bad as those at ASY. A Trabzon fan hearing this would almost certainly have convinced himself that his board have a point!! You and I as outsiders would laugh off this argument. Certain sections of the GS media are claiming that the banner Fenerbahce players walked out with was the instigator of the events that followed. I as a Fener fan am amazed at this claim as the banner hadn't any provocation whatsoever. Ask a GS fan and they will come up with a story similar to that of the GS media. This will go on and on...

The TFF and the clubs have a go into the roots of this problem. They have to identify perpretrators and use suitable punishment to make sure these guys are away from the stadiums. Lig TV tell us that a total of 15 TV cameras are present at all live Super Lig games. What's to stop the TFF to demand a couple more to serve no other purpose than to record the fans and their actions? I'm sure that fans that love their club and cannot risk being banned from the stadium will think twice before throwing a foriegn object into the pitch under the spotlight of the camera....

Jemster excellent post I agree all the things you mentioned.
Every fener or gala supporter must watch derby game at least once in his/her lifetime, but if things continue going like this, they might play in an empty stadium. No fener fans in Ali Sami Yen and no gala fans in Saracoglu is ridiculus. Every group have people doing these stuff and police have to arrest them, also these people should be banned from any football games. not all of supporters are guilty.
