Krassimir Balakov (Reuters)
02/13/2003. VfB Stuttgart star Krassimir Balakov has confirmed that this season shall be last as a professional player. The 36-year-old Bulgarian international's association with the Schwaben will not end with his playing career, however, as he has accepted a role as co-coach and club representative.

"It is never easy to call it a career but the fact that I am very much looking forward to working with Felix Magath has made things easier," said 'Bala', who has been a firm fan favourite at the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion since he first arrived in Stuttgart in 1995.

"I am delighted that we managed to bind Balakov to the club," said VfB Stuttgart's coach. "Not every club can boast a man of such international pedigree."

Magath went on to admit that Balakov's expert playmaking ability would be missed but insisted that VfB will be able to compensate for his absence with resources already at the club.

Ivanov has not been a massive success since he arrived at Rennes and , Rennes coach Vahid Halilodzic seems to have more confidence in Piquionne, Frei and Maoulida for the next season.

Yet, Ivanov was a prolific striker when he played for Levski Sofia and was even the Bulgarian League's top scorer last year. Consequently, Levski Sofia want Ivanov to come back and are said to have done a first bid to Rennes.
