Who would you want as manager(that we could get)?

Well I think David O' Leary would be a great manager but I wouldn't mind seeing Joe Kinear either. Both would be a great choice.

Yeah I'd agree that O'Leary is the man for the job, infact realistically the only man good enough for the job whos free.

O'Neill would be a good choice, but hes too attached to Celtic.

definitely o'leary...he is the best who is available...

George Burley, if he hasn't taken that Stoke job.

I hope Aldo doesn't get it. He was a great player but he hasn't proved anything at management level. We'd just be doing the same thing we did with Mick a few years ago.

Brian Kerr without a shadow of a doubt. A winner on two occasions with the under age teams (and at St Pats). Liverpool want him to run their Academy as Houllier rates him very highly, so give him the job before its too late. He's brought most of the current squad through the ranks anyway and they would go thro brick walls for the man.

Kinnear would be a disaster. Back to the Up and at Them football of Charlton's days. No thanks.

Wim Jansen has been mentioned as well which would be a good choice. I dont see why we have to take inexperienced/failed coaches just cos they're Irish.

Kerr has no experience. I can't imagine someone like Roy Keane respecting him.

I say Kerr as well. Not only is he a "winner" but a coach with less expereince is more likely to listen to a power personality like Keane's as oposed to being threatened by it and thus causing more problems. Kerr doesn't strike me as the kind of guy with an ego that needs to be caressed. With Romania when the great Hagi was around it was a pre-requisit of the coaching job that Hagi was unofficially in-charge. So I think it should be with Ireland. I just hope whoever gets the job gets Keano back pronto, because we need him bad.

The FAI has said it doesn't want to rush into finding a new coach. Givens will be the interum Senior team coach.

who gives a **** what Roy Keane thinks. If we have to make an appointment based on his say so then we may as well throw our hat at it. Keane is almost finished as a player anyway. Injuries and age are catching up. Time to look to the future instead of back (specifically the whole Keane/McCarty fiasco). Kerr has more international experience than all the others put together anyway. Is the pre requisite for the job that you coached (and failed) in England???

btw Martin O Neill stated a while ago that the only job he's interested in outside of Celtic is the Irish job. But the FAI could'nt afford him I'd imagine.

FAI May Appoint A Foreign Coach

McCarthy leaves Ireland with a bright future (Allsport)
11/06/2002. The Irish Football Association (FAI) are considering appointing a foreign coach in the wake of Mick McCarthy's resignation.

Both England and Scotland have turned to foreign coaches in recent years and Ireland may be set to follow suit, although the early favourites are Irishmen John Aldridge and Joe Kinnear.

"Our objective is to find the best manager who can build on what Mick had done," said Brendon Menton, general secretary of the FAI.

"This is a very good, young team and it is a very exciting time for Irish international football and one of the things we are going to look at is bringing in outside expertise to help in the appointment process.

"Our objective has to be to have a top-class manager in place by February 1 for our friendly against Scotland and someone who will ensure we qualify for Euro 2004.

"We would consider a foreign coach. We have spoken to nobody and there is no short list and there are no favourites at this stage."

Aldridge And Kinnear Want Irish Job
Latest News | News Archive

The race to replace Mick is hotting up (Allsport)
11/06/2002. John Aldridge and Joe Kinnear have become two of the favourites to replace Mick McCarthy as manager of Republic of Ireland after they admitted they would take the job.

Kinnear was one of the leading candidates for the job when McCarthy was appointed over six years ago, and the current Luton manager is in the hunt again.

Kinnear said: "It's one of the top jobs in international football. I'd certainly take if it came my way again."

Aldridge has been out of work since leaving Tranmere last year in what is his only managerial job, however he is well respected for his work at the Merseyside club.

Former Leeds boss David O'Leary has ruled himself out of the running, while a potential outsider is former Sunderland boss Peter Reid, who would likely name former Irish stiker Niall Quinn as his assistant.
