Gianluca Zambrotta will be out of action for at least three months after sustaining a thigh injury during South Korea.

The Juventus star was stretchered off during the 2-1 World Cup defeat on June 18, but only underwent extensive tests this afternoon.

Bianconeri medics diagnosed a deep tear in the upper left thigh muscle, an injury that will not allow the winger back on the playing field until October at the earliest.

The 25-year-old former Bari man must have absolute rest for 15 days before beginning intensive physiotherapy.

This is a particularly bitter blow for Juventus, as defender Gianluca Pessotto is also out for the next seven months with ruptured knee ligaments.

Very bad news. Our weak midfield just got weaker. New players in midfield are now a certainty.

That would be a huge blow for Lippi. Zambrotta on the right and Pessotto on the left. I hope that pushes Moggi to sign someone like Eriberto: Brazilian, speedy, and doesn't cost much.
