Portsmouth boss Velimir Zajec has cast fresh doubt on striker Yakubu's future at Fratton Park.

Zajec says the 22-year-old Nigerian, who looked to be heading to Newcastle last month, "hasn't given what he could" this season, despite 14 goals.

"He has great ability, great power and great character," Zajec told the Portsmouth Evening News.

"But he needs to give everything all the time. We need him completely, not just part of him."

Yakubu scored a penalty in Saturday's home defeat at the hands of Aston Villa but was taken off after 67 minutes.

Portsmouth would have to pay a percentage of any fee they attract to Maccabi Haifa of Israel, who co-own Yakubu's contract.

ye Yakubu has been looking abit lazy of late, needs to take his finger out of his arse, but we all know he's at Middlesborough next year anyway. He scored against Charlton at the weekend and sometimes puts in good performances but his effort has to be questioned. On another note Lua Lua has been golden bollox recently he's scored and assisted some important goals and always looks lively and dangerous. Hope they keep him and Kamara next year he's looked good too.
