Slovenia midfielder Zlatko Zahovic confirmed on Wednesday that he will join last season's Champions' League runners-up Valencia once Olympiakos release him from his contract.

"I have not signed for Valencia yet, but we have agreed a deal and are waiting for a reply from Olympiakos which is expected to come at any moment," Zahovic said.

"I want to go to Spain, I want to play for Valencia. The club and I expect a positive answer from Olympiakos."

Zahovic has agreed personal terms thought to be worth £2 million a year but the Greeks are demanding a £7 million transfer fee while Valencia have offered just £5 million.

The Slovenia star, who has scored 25 goals in 49 international appearances, fell out with former Olympiakos coach Alberto Bigon towards the end of last season and refused to play for the club any more.

Zahovic, also a reported target for Manchester United and Turkish side Besiktas, then put himself in the shop window during Euro 2000 with three goals and a series of impressive displays.

He joined Olympiakos for nearly £10 million last summer but the Greeks are now desperate to get him off their hands.
